Post Who has made the move from an XJ 350 to the XF

I was dead set on a XJ 350 and then decided to start researching the 2009-2010 XF's. I love the interior, the front end and headlight still have not grown on me. The rear end looks awesome. I know it is much more modern and is a enginerring marvel pver the X350.

For those that have switched or happen to have both what are your comments regarding the 2? I know the XF was more of a replacement for the S trype so not a real good comaprisson I know. I would probably get the XJR and not sure if it would be a XF or XFR? I want to stay as close to 30K as much as possible.

Still have a couple months till I move back to Florida so I can start looking around.

I have to admit I am liking the 2013 Ford Fusion since it has the Jag lines, but do prefer the Jags for the quality.

Thanks for any comments!

Default Have one of each

Bought an 2010 XF for my retirement and loved it. Bought a beauty 2004 XJ Vanden Plas for the Mrs. Equally beautiful cars in there own way. Traded the 2010 XF for a special order 2011 XF Supercharged that I like even better. It's a no loser.

XF is a development of the S-Type. It does not compare to the XJ.

Even the older XJ is all aluminum, the XF only uses aluminum for the trunk lid and hood. The drive train in the XJ is exactly the same as the XF. The XJ manages to be lighter and quicker than the smaller XF.

The XF does use the suspension from the XK but that is itself a development of the last XJ suspension.

So, the XJ series is significantly superior to the XF.

The newest XJ is a stunning achievement for Jaguar and much more expensive than the XF.

I prefer the XF only because it is smaller.

For a 30k price range look at the 2009 XF Supercharged. The XFR and even the 2010+ Supercharged models will be well above $30k.

Jagular is right on the button, the all-aluminium XJ of 2003 (!!) is technologically streets ahead of the XF, in all except its body style, which some consider a bit old fashioned.

Not me though !!

I moved up from an XJ and I certainly do not miss the suspension quirks. The XJ engine was very good as well as the transmission but my XF 5.0L is noticably much more powerful and the transmission is also fantastic. I like the smaller size and interior but I miss the wood and sunglass compartment.

Thanks Rique, thats a sweet XF you have.
I agree regarding what I have read from the suspension. You should have no problems with the XF as it is not air.

Looks like maybe the XJ got better gas mileage? You have a XF SC so I can see the difference there as well.

Thanks again everyone for your feedback.

Well I had the X350 XJ8 and it was one intoxicating ride. I still miss the interior with its acres of veneer. But I don't miss the air suspension and for that reason I probably wouldn't buy another one. OTOH it's not nearly as expensive to fix as the Active Body Control on the Mercedes.

Agree with you about the XF headlights; however you do know they have been revised with the current model right? And aside from that the XF is one of the sharpest-looking saloon cars on the road right now.

Agree with everything you wrote... the air suspension is a bit... eccentric for the lack of a better word but the body style is a classic. For the reasons already stated in this post, I have one of each... classic and new..

Very nice have to love that new frontend. Lights look much better sleek on the 2012. One hot looking Saloon.

No doubt about it, when I pass by in my XF panties fall to the ground. Its really sharp. My XJ was a looker but girls tend to refert to you as Sir rather than "hey slick".

What I hated about the XJ was that I had a clunk in the steering. I changed all the bushings, tie rods, links everything. It would last a month or so and then clunk clunk clunk. This was the main reason I decided to change the car. If I had not had this issue I would have kept that Jag add eternum.
