Red face Worried of WA

G'day all, Love the forum even if it is scary reading worrying about all the potential hazard's of Jaguar ownership!
I have just bought a 2009 3.0D TT and I have driven it for the grand sum of 5 minutes! my wife picked it up from the dealer and called me to tell me that she had got 2km down the road and there was a cloud of black smoke and the DPF light came on, I told here to just get it home I would take it out when I got home for work and run it down the freeway to regenerate it, well her being the Minister for War and Finance wasn't happy with this so she rang the dealer who told her to bring it back in the morning and he would connect it up to force the regen, so I didn't get to drive my new toy except to the bottle shop and back !

The following day she takes it carefully back to the dealer and she said there was little smoke but the DPF was still on, he said he would run it round tot he workshop and she could wait it wouldn't take long, he returned 5 minutes later and said that he got it to the shop and it had blown a turbo !!!
Now I have to wait whilst they repair it my question is what are the issues I'm likely to face moving forward luckily I have paid for the extended warranty. my thoughts are that it has been sat in an warehouse/showroom for a few months and they have started it weekly and let it run to charge the battery this is obviously what has filled the DPF and I think that may have lead to the turbo issues too if it has not been running under load will it have been lubricated properly so is that likely to be the issue, I suspect he floored it going to the workshop so heavens knows what he's damaged , I'm worried now that I've bought a lemon but unfortunately a refund is not an option and the minister for War and Finance is already arcing up so just wondered what sage advice you kind people had ??

Well, you should be very afraid of buying any premium car that is 10 years old if you can't stomach major repairs. A lot of things start to break around the 10 year mark, and since you didn't pay anywhere near the price of a new car, you can't expect to have the trouble-free ownership of the first few years that the original owner paid for.

Well that advice is as much use as a chocolate teapot !
I'm not an idiot I am fully aware that I haven't bought a new car and that was not my question it was for me to be prepared for known issues that people have experienced, but thanks for your comment anyway .

Well list something that is on your car, and there you go, that's something that can break after 10 years.

Maybe you're not as smart as you think.

Y182, you will get much better and more advice over on the Pommy XF forum here: https://www.jaginfo.org/forum.php
Lots of XF 3.0D owners there but none in the US as Jag have never sold diesels in the US.
I had a 2010 XFS - 3.0D twin turbo - for a bit under two years and the only problem I ever had with it was the DPF clogging up due to incomplete regens. Too many short trips and not enough long trips/high revs.
I got the dreaded DPF warning and RP on the second or third day of ownership but as I had already done a lot of research on the DPF I knew what to do to fix it - a good long drive with the revs over 3,000 at all times (using the left paddle) to initiate a forced regen.
But I still had DPF problems, long story short after some more research and reading I fixed them by adding my own "special brew" to the fuel tank every time I filled up - 100 ml of Morey's Diesel Smoke Killer and one part in 200 of 2 stroke mineral oil (it must be mineral oil not synthetic) pre-mixed in a fuel container with approx 1 litre of diesel. I also tried Wynn's DPF Cleaner but I'm not sure it ever really did much. Another additive which definitely helped though was Oxicat but it is not cheap.
See here for the Morey's: https://www.moreyoil.co.nz/moreys-diesel-smoke-killer/
I also only ever used BP Ultimate diesel.
Lots of debate over on the Pommy forum about diesel fuels, additives, DPF regens, DPF cleaning etc etc and not all agree with my solution, but it worked for me.
I was planning to remove the DPF (gut it) and have the car professionally tuned (several places that can do this, maybe not that many in Perth though) but instead I upgraded to an XFR.

Many thanks OzXFR,

I have researched and found a company in Perth that will remove the DPF and remap the ECU for $1800, I belive this will also increase L/100 so bonus as well as getting rid of the DPF issues.

The dealer has told me that its the left bank Turbo and they are going to replace it with Genuine parts and they are removing the DPF to have that proffesionly cleaned so I will be starting with a clean unit.
I will look at the UK forum now .

Many thanks bud.

The remap should also give you another 100 to 200 torques and another 60 to 80 horsepowers!
I put a RaceChip Pro2 on mine which took it from 600 Nm to 700 Nm, yours has 500 Nm stock so you probably won't get to 700 with a tune.
Check out the Pommy forum for weak points in the engine that can become more problematic with a tune, from memory things like splitting leaking valve/rocker covers and turbo pipes and clogged EGR valves, either the dealer or the tuner should check these things while they are working on the car.

Woah Nice !! Yes I just signed up to the Pommy site thanks, as you say a lot more Diesel info on there and thanks for the heads up on the things to look out for with the tune up I will investigate further before I get it done at least if the dealer does a professional clean of the DPF and my daily commute is about 45k each way at about 80kmh so if I keep the revs up should be able to keep the DPF clean until I decide what to do
