XF-RS or XKR-S ECU tune of XF Supercharged
Is anyone offering to flash the ECU with the FACTORY XF-RS or XK-RS program on XF Supercharged or XF-R cars in California? I know this has been done, I know it works and -- given that there is no physical difference in the engines and components of the XF SC, XF-R and XF-RS cars save the exhaust -- this is my most preferred upgrade.
There is nothing like a factory tune with all the safeguards, conservatism and thousands of miles of track and road testing to put your mind to ease. Yes, aftermarket tunes may make more power. But how many tuners actually "prove" their tunes through a regimented test protocol which includes hundreds of hours on an engine dyno, road and track testing for thousands of miles in hot, cold, wet, dry, high altitude, low altitude, good gas and bad gas scenarios? How many actually verify their numbers through SAE J1349 testing and real EPA fuel economy cycles? How many actually tear down the engine and transmission to verify wear levels after those tests? The answer is none.
And... quite honestly... 550 bhp / 510 lb-ft minus 5 or 10 or so for a quieter exhaust is good enough.

Should be possible using IDS/SDD. Worst case, copy/rename file so it thinks it's putting in a suitable file.
If it doesn't run OK having done it, no idea if you'll be able to get the original back in, though!! (Probably. But is "probably" good enough?)
I wouldn't be trying this at home LOL

I just came back from Orlando, FL, yesterday and I am jetting off the Taipei today. I am due back in California on the 10th of March, then it's on to Toronto, Canada on the 12th...
Still no time to take the car to the Dyno... but, fuel economy seems to be somewhat improved (surprisingly). I logged this on a 110+ mile drive from Sacramento, CA to Belmont, CA. Almost 27 mpg... at 65 mph constant (cruise control) minus a few instances when I have to brake for traffic. This is the best I have ever seen since I owned the XF! I believe it may have something to do with the XF-RS programming being leaner than the XF S/C programming. Still... here it is...

So how did you finally get the tune done? Is it actually known fact that all the components are the same and that the -RS tune will be fine long term? I guess care is also in order when in for dealer service so they don't apply software updates or the tune would be lost.

I need to know how to get this done
PM'd Dwight but I'm guessing he hasn't been on the forum in a while.
I'd love it if someone who knows IDS/SDD better than I do (which is not at all) could weigh in and state whether this is even possible. If it is I'm more than happy to go out and buy the Mongoose cable, get hold of a laptop, etc etc. The idea of running a genuine Jaguar XF-RS map on my 5.0 XF SC (over a custom remap) is too good an opportunity to pass up.
I'm almost tempted to ask at the dealership now my car's out of warranty but I expect they'd tell me to take a running jump!
Come on guys, there must be a way...

Update: Found this thread which explains in more detail - I'd need the XKR-S map, not XFR-S, due to differences in the ECU. Still interested to find out how easy this is to do with the right gear.
