Welcome to the forum Mirco,

If the Smart Key battery is low, you will have to dock the Smart Key to start the engine:

First press hard on the brake pedal and then next press the Start button.

Fortunately it's rare to have a faulty Jaguar ECU - just as well as they are frighteningly expensive.

You are going to have to have diagnostics on the car to find out what is wrong. As the engine turns but will not start, it's either no spark at the plugs or or no fuel at the rail. Jaguar SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics) is the quick way to troubleshoot this.

YES - but if the battery is low and the Smart Key is not docked, I expect the security system would still be activated and the engine would not even turn over.

If the car died whilst being driven, I would suspect a problem with the car, not the key. Once the engine is running, you can walk away from the car with the key & the engine won't stop, just the message, Smart Key Not Found is displayed.
