Default XFR e-diff fault and dragging

Hi all

Everything ok with my xfr apart from e-diff fault.

I had an error message and off I went to the dealers and they replaced the motor under warranty.

However the symptoms haven't changed. Before and after the fault and fix I feel the tyres dragging on the road if I make an average to sharp turn on the road. I know they are wide tyres but I i thought this might be related to the diff? Maybe it is a fault and not operating correctly?

Strangely it ssems to drag every time I turn left from a stop. This lack of refinement is a bit annoying. It may happen turning right I will pay attention today.

The car has always done this and I've had it 2 years.

From the symptoms does anyone know what's happening. Does anyone else get this? The dragging rear tyres mainly happens making sharpish turns from a stop and seems worse trying to go up sharp slopes from a stop at an angle too.

Thanks!

The dragging symptoms are like a rubbing over the road that you can feel and even hear in the sound of a very small rub / thump.

Thanks

Sounds like what my diff was doing before it died. The best way I could describe it was like driving over the rumble strips they put on the side of the road to wake people up if they get too far toward the shoulder.

Mine did that for a few months then died and put up the warning screen.

The non-R models don't have E-Diffs.

What was strange for me is I took it to a jaguar garage and they replaced the e-diff motor.

The error message went but the dragging wheels still occur on tight steering angles. Even on average steering angles too.

Nothing seems to have changed after the motor was replaced. But I've ran it like this for a year and no errors since. It just feels odd

Sounds like what used to happen to old-school plate LSD's if you overtightened them, they work like a locker, most obvious at low-speed turns (like manuevering in a carpark) where the inside wheel skips & drag's because it's trying to turn at the same speed as the outside wheel.

If that's the case then there's something not right with the setup of the diff in your car. The E-Diff is not serviceable as far as Jaguar is concerned, the only repair is to replace, so I'd say they put a new motor on because that's a lot easier and cheaper than swapping out the entire diff. I'm guessing with your's being a 2010 it's out of warranty? If it is still under warranty then i'd be pushing for them to replace the entire diff...if not, then how much does it bother you?

The E-Diff is the GKN ETM or "Electronic Torque Manager" more info here Electronic Torque Manager - GKN Driveline at the moment there is very little information available in regards to servicing and spare parts, nothing actually...

The problem is they replaced the E-diff motor but not the diff itself. That's what needs replacing.

We have heard there are refurbished/rebuilt ones available too.

I was told the clutch packs don't disengage when the diff should be unlocked and the difference in inside wheel travel causes the noises, etc. So they didn't fix the right problem or they only fixed half of the problem.

Was it under warranty when you had the repair performed? If so, you might have grounds to open something back up with Jaguar.
