Default XFR Speedo

Hi Guys

Having now got to grips with my lovely XFR its time to take it to the nurburg ring in German to see what it really can do.

I want to keep the miles off the car while I flat tow it with my transit as the journey is nearly 3000 miles round trip. If I could lift the front wheels then I guess it wouldnt matter by my toe arm is a fixed flat tri-bar and so how to I disconnect the speedo for the trip?

France and Germany require ignition on for lights (its not enough to fix a light bar you now have to have your hazzards going.

I read somewhere it is controlled with a fuse but unsure which one.

Can anyone advise how I can have the igition and lights on during the trip without racking up 3000 miles that the engine didn't really do?

Default Change of Plan

So after 150+ views and seemingly nobody knowing how to disconnect the speedo on my 2010 xfr I was thinking - what if I tow it backwards? I will need to see if my tri bar (which is adjustable) will be able to do the job so assuming I can safely connect the car to my MH would this hurt the car running in reverse (not actually in gear) instead of towing it forwards ??

If the miles are a priority why not just tow it on a trailer (no wheels on the ground)?

It is absolutely not recommended to tow the car with the rear wheels rolling, flat bed only. It's even mentioned in the owners manual if I'm not mistaken. The ZF transmission can be damaged by free-wheeling without the engine running to keep the fluid pressure up.

If you are so concerned about miles put it on a trailer as suggested, much better solution.

I would agree, spinning a rear diff and to transmission for 3000 miles seems a terrible idea.

I agree and if I had a trailer id be using it for sure.

I hadn't really though about the diff so I guess I will have to drive it down and have the wife drive the MH.

Im still going to go hunt for a fuse or something as its likely she wont drive either as they are too big for her and as it is mostly highway roads rather than small bendy roads maybe the diff wont be so bad plus after the first leg (1500) i'll be burning up the nurburg ring (i hope) so that should sort any dif issues before the return leg.

Read what I wrote again, you are spinning the transmission without any fluid pressure = dead transmission. Drive it or put it on a trailer / flat bed.
