Default XFR Stalling / Starting when it feels like it.

Hi Guys,

Having a strange issue with my XFR.

It's been running great however yesterday I drove the car for about 20 mins, shut it off, came back 10 mins later, got in, started it, put it in gear and drove about half a block. The car then just stalled and would no longer start. I got it to turn over a couple times but the car would not start.

Had it towed to the garage "here is how to put it in neutral you probably want to read this"

How To Tow A Jaguar Equipped With An Electronic Shift Lever

Went back to the garage this afternoon, disconnected the battery, reconnected and attempted to start again. Car turns over but won't start. Mechanic tries later in the day and the car starts up perfectly.

My feeling is the almost 6 year old battery is playing games or the fuel pump is on it's way out or something "else" is going on. There are no engine codes. Anyone else go through this?

Two weeks ago it stalled at a light but after putting it in park it started right up and was working fine for about 2 weeks until yesterday's adventure.

Thanks in advance...

"almost 6 year old battery" - there is your answer.
Plenty of threads around here on how the XF is very sensitive to battery condition, and how the OEM battery starts to deteriorate after around 4 years old.
Six years old is way past it's use by date.

It's definitely the battery.

I wouldn't rule out the fuel pump. A friend had the same issues until his was replaced. Start with the battery and then move on from there.

Just thought I would provide an update in case this happens to someone else. The battery was changed. During the test drive the car stalled again but threw a code this time. Fuel pump is defective. Should have a new one installed in a couple days... Thanks again for the great feedback.

Very helpful thank you! I have been trying to figure out the same issue on my car. Was the fuel pump covered under warranty?

Great tip on the release lever. The X Type had a similar release under the gear shift trim that I had to use once. Was wondering if the XF also had this. Never know when it might come in handy.

Default Stalling fixed

Hey so I was having this issue on my car and it was the Fuel Pump harness. Dealer covered it under warranty. Car has been operating fine.
