Decided I would like to monitor coolant temp for peace of mind as I have just changed both head gaskets on this overheated engine.

Trying this Autotool X60 from Amazon, around $35. Just plugs in to the ODB port, comes with the cable. Easy peazy. You know what, I like it so far.

I use PLX gauges can can show, coolant temp, boost, etc and I have the dash command app with a $10 obd dongle, work goos. I an thinking to make a pod for my old iPhone and mount that

 

How does it measure temp? Is it a sensor in the coolant somewhere? If so, the issue is that if a pipe breaks and coolant escapes there is no fluid to measure temp and the engine can overheat
So it's helpful but not necessarily always.

 

It gets temp value from ecu via odb.

 

Makes a good digital speedometer too. Very useful as the speedo is so hard to see sometimes.
