Default XFR - X-pipe install and Resonator Delete

Decided to follow the suggestions of other and had the two center resonators removed and had a proper X-pipe installed. Total cost $150.

At idle it's a little bit louder, I can hear the low-end rumble a bit more. Same with off-idle acceleration, just a tiny bit louder. Over 1200 RPM it's no louder than stock (on the inside!). However, from the outside, it sounds like a beast!!

I didn't have the muffler valves removed because those are primarily to ensuring the car is quiet on cold-starts. As the exhaust heats up the baffles open and free up the exhaust. I saw no reason to remove them, especially for the sake of my neighbors.

Frankly, I love the sound now. I love the burble and pop.

From someone who's done both the x-pipe and valve delete, but not at the same time, your assumption is incorrect. It's exhaust gas volume that opens the valve, not temperature.

The valve delete makes it a bit louder at startup (not even close to loud though) but also let's you hear the engine more through the entire range at partial throttle. At full throttle, where the valves would have been open anyway because of the amount of exhaust gas volume, it sounds the same as just the x-pipe.

So the me stock is too quiet, and off the shelf aftermarket exhaust is too loud, but the x-pipe and valve delete is just right. And to be honest, even if it was a bit louder it would still be acceptable. The best thing I've heard to date was the custom exhaust that my muffler guy did for another forum member that I referred to him. But his was three times as expensive as mine so I feel it's the best mod for sound you can make. Unless you like it loud...

Haven't heard an xfr in person so I can't comment in the stock sound.

But this video leads me to think it sounds a bit like the f-type with the pops and gurgles.

Does it sound like that stock anyways.

Regardless, the car sounds sick!

Just watched your video. Do you have a photo of your x-pipe, etc from under the car? Has more popping than mine did and am curious why.

Definitely sounds like a Mustang to me. Not my preference for a gentleman's Jag.

Sounds great, videos never do modded exhausts justice. I am running the Mina exhaust and I personally wouldn't mind it a bit louder!

Hi guys, I have xpipe with cats removed, custom titan exhausts, resonators replaced with hand made powerflow resonators and magnaflow mufflers. Sounds awesome and power gain is really amazing but its too noisy in bass, impossible to drive calm. So next week gonna try to replace magnaflow with something less vibrating and low.

What diameter pipe are you using? I've been told from a few sources that 2.5" is all we need and anything else just makes more noise without any performance gains.

I've been reading up thinking about doing my exhaust, I think it sound great stock but would love to feel like I am driving a true exotic ( but in a gentlemanly way)

A few q's, has anyone ever seen ay value in doing the whole exhaust manifold down ( I mean in power?)

Stock exhaust is 2.5 or 2.25? Is the 2.5 x-pipe right for the stock exhaust?

I like the x-pipe idea, sounds easy and will gain power without an increase in sound and perhaps lessen the pop.

All I can say is DO IT! Take out the two resonators and put in the x-pipe. The change is very mellow and the decel popping is practically gone. If you did decide to go for more exhaust modifications, you can go with 2.5" all the way through and use MagnaFlow mufflers if you want it louder (but not too loud) or do the valve delete which let's you hear it just a bit more.

I had mine at the dealer and the service manager didn't realize I'd modified the exhaust. He said that's how it should have sounded from the factory. Healthy but understated.

As far as doing the whole exhaust, not sure taking out the cats is worth it.

Thanks for responding Kyanite, I have enjoyed reading your posts. So is the exhaust 2.2.5 or 2.5 in stock from all the way back ?

I would never go to the magna flows, I have them on my Saab and its perfect for a 4cyl turbo but not a european sound that I want.

I am looking to maximize the performance that the exhaust can give, I would not remove the cats but use high performance 2.5 race cats ( I don't like the idea of polluting the environment) and 2.5 mufflers , maybe fox or remus ( had the remus on my saab, awesome sound and build quality.)

I would try the x-pipe and valve delete and see what you think. Then if it's not enough modify from there. I'm very happy with the sound of mine. Reminds me of a flat crank V8 sound of a Maserati, but without the valve open.

As far as size of pipe, I seem to remember that it's mostly 2.5" but thought that there were points in the stock exhaust that were 2.25". Do a search for "Craneboy". He had a lot of photos and description about the valve delete and what the exhaust tubing is.
