I have been unable to find the Head Bolt Torque Settings and Tightening Sequence for my 1996 XJ6 with a 4.0L engine. Can someone please help me out? I have oil leaking from the rear of the engine and I replaced the cam cover gasket but it is still leaking. It appears as though the leak might be coming from the head gasket but can't really see. I cleaned the area and used a borescope and that's where it looks like the leak might be. I want to check the head bolt torque to see if they might be the problem before I jump in and replace the head gasket. Any HELP will be appreciated.

I'd think an external oil leak is unlikely to be a head gasket issue.

Sounds like the plate on the back of the head is leaking.

There is a plate that seals both coolant and oil on the back of the cylinder head.
The yellow gasket sometimes fails and leaks either or both fluids.

The cylinder head bolts are 'torque-to-yeild' or 'stretch-bolts' so checking the tightness is not going to be a reliable way to verify the clamping force on the head gasket.

The 'common' oil leak was from near the front of the engine where the oil passages to the cams go through the gasket. Jaguar issued several updated head gaskets over the years.

Jaguar also issued a TSB describing the practice of using the head and main cap bolts more than once.
