I think your best way out of this is to ditch all the coils, ditch the mechanic, and buy from Japthug. $82 each for new coils made in Japan, with gasket and boot, delivered! Even less if you don't need gasket and boot. Don't spend any other money. Certainly don't buy those aftermarkets from Rock Auto or ebay. Bite the bullet, and be done with it. This is your best chance for success, in my opinion.

 

Only the 'Made In Japan' are the true OEM. Despite newer versions being in Lucas boxes etc. I'd still love for a member to try our repro's out with no hassle warranty replacements if they fail and report back...

 

+1 on Jagthug. I ordered 6 from him. He gave quick and clear communication, I paid via Paypal, and the coils came surprisingly fast via postal shipping to Canada without issue. I haven't had a chance to install any yet but they look exactly like the original ones, Made In Japan clearly marked. Yay!!

I have used some of the airtex wells and standard products in my Jeep and new X350 XJ8 still going well

I originally bought some cheap Ebay ones for my XJR6 about 8 years ago and three died within 2 years

My mechanic had some old ones so swapped them in for the time being I then bought 6 new ones from British parts that was 3 years ago car is going great still

doc, British Parts was providing the Japanese coil 3 years ago, but now what they provide are made by SMPE(standard motor products europe) and not good.
I bought some of those recently and won't last for a year...

Oh LOL.it took me till today to realize people were replying to me and continuing the discussion haha... I just bought 3 coils from Japthug, waiting for them to arrive in the mail. I might buy three more and have everything replaced, and keep the new ones (the ones my mechanic put in) in the trunk as spares.
I don't plan on replacing my mechanic, hes honest. Hard to come by here. not to mention not to many mechanics are/were aware of that issue. I also think that the coil isn't always messing up. and that if he probably drives with the reader (if possible) he will see it. It does not always misfire, however it has gotten worse. I told him the bottom line is the car wasn't flickering before. so I'm positive its still a coil, since i dont know which one, all three older ones will go...would be nice to find out which one tho that way id have more extras to pack away. Since then i went ahead and replaced the TCM..(holy *****) after i was done twisting and turning, moving the seat here and there and soaking my shirt with 3 gallons of sweat i finally got it in hahah..tomorrow im getting the ABS Module sent out to re-sodder and have it reinstalled, after that the radio and speakers...and AFTER that!....replace some lights with LEDs...

 

So they are pretty good? their just an arm and a leg..lol

 

Fortunately almost all the coils are sold.
Prior to getting other coils into the stock, I would like to know the future needs for the parts.
X300s are being a rare cars here in Japan and I don't think the coils sell well here, so the amount of the stock will depend on how many will be needed abroad...
It's not that you have to buy mine, but if there are anyone who will need the coils someday, I would appreciate the info.

I intend to keep my X300 for as long as possible. Now still running on all original with 127,000 miles. Will be in the market fairley soon I would think when I would definitely buy from you.

I think that anyone that has one of these cars will want coils in the future and your prices are very good. People that own the cars today like them and want to keep them running as long as possible. In Japan the culture is different. With some cars they have to put in new engines after a certain number of miles. That would kill Jags. No such rule exist in the US. We treasure old cars. Over the long term you will not have any trouble getting rid of OEM coils.

 

I agree with EZDriver. X300 owners throughout the US, Europe and Australasia are working very hard to keep these cars on the road, so there will be plenty of demand for these crucial parts for many years to come. It is clear from the comments on this thread that aftermarket parts are not as good as the OE parts from Diamond.


5 years ago I designed a revised cranks sensor bracket to increase the performance and fuel economy of my own car. I then thought a few other X300 owners might want one. I've now made 330 of them and the demand continues. It will be the same with the OE coils.

 

Are you the person selling OEM Coils for Jaguar? I have a 1997 XJ6L v.p. 4.0...... Can you give some info about them you are selling and price for a set of 6..... I live in Conroe, Texas ..... USA.....tks jake

It's good to know everyone in the world keep driving X300s, it is sad to see many have gone to the salvage yard in Japan, though it is one of the finest car ever produced and it actually is now when properly fixed.
