hi guys this is a great Jag Forum...only just joined.. you guys are very cluey...
I just bough my son a 1997 x300 3.2ltr heritage LWB...
but it wont start... ive gone though just about all links and posts ...but it just wont fire up, though it tries...I have replaced the plugs, all coils.. engine crank sensor.. checked all fuses and relays... checked full pump with a gauge, and pressure regulator are good to...also.. in the dark of last night, we tried again, now I find the small wire going to the starter motor Solenoid is sparking up.. please help, as I seriously need it.. cheers Rick .. Hi Rick,

If the engine turns while cranking, then I doubt the sparking at the starter solenoid wire is the ultimate problem, but you do want to sort out why it is sparking.

Probably the number one cause of a Jaguar engine cranking but not starting is low battery voltage. If the voltage sags much below 11V while cranking, the Engine Control Module (ECM) will not trigger the ignition to fire the coils/plugs.

If you have a fast-reacting voltmeter, you can have your son crank the engine while you monitor the voltage across the battery terminals.

You can also check for spark with an inexpensive coil-on-plug tester or by pulling a plug, connecting it to the coil, and grounding its threads.
