Default door lock actuator

I am in desperate need of help. I have a 1998 XJ8 that has a problem with the driver's door. The door will not unlock no matter what I try. The interior door handle does not work and I cannot turn the lock with the key or unlock with the key fob. all other doors work correctly. I believe that the power actuator is faulty and stuck in the lock position. I have removed the interior handle and manually pulled on the cable that runs to the lock actuator with no results. I can feel the resistance and know that it is connected to the actuator but the door will not open or unlock. Is there a way to override the actuator and get this door open? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have removed the #15 fuse and #2 fuse from the drivers side fuse panel under the rear seat and they are not blown. I also tried to reset the electrical system by removing the negative battery cable and holding it on the positive post for a minute with not results. There has to be a trick to get this door open.

Hi bhamilton 2790
Welcome to the forum.
Here are 2 other threads on a driver door lock issue - The first one has a test of the door actuator - how to check if it is bad (look at post# 5).

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...l-issue-29960/

The other has to do with replacing bad door latch microswitches. This maybe part of your door lock issue or it may not be because the forum member was able to use his master key to lock and unlock the driver door.

Here is what I found out. Fortunately my replacement Part came in the mail today. I was able to figure out how to operate the actuator to open the door. First you have to remove the door panel. Yes it can be done with the door closed. Once you have the inner door exposed you can take a long thin screw driver along the right side of the actuator to manually move the rear lever. This is the lever attached to the key barrel. Pushing up on it will free the stuck actuator and allow you to open the door. Once the door is free it is a simple procedure to replace the actuator. An hour later everything is working perfectly. Long process to diagnose and fix but I still would not want to drive anything else but my XJ
