Default 1997 xj6. No crank, shifter won't move out of park

Hello there, new to the forum. Hope this is posted correctly. I have a 1997 xj6 that I tried to jump start because the battery was dead. Even tried another battery. Seems to be plenty of juice but when I attempt to start it, the car does not crank. Also I would think that if the key is in the run position, I would be able to shift the car into neutral. The shifter will not move out of park. The cast is st my vacation property and I had very little things to diagnose it and will return there this weekend. Just hoping someone had a similar experience. Thanks in advance for any reply

I just shorted the VVT solenoid on a STR and had faults pop up and it won't crank and the car doesn't shift from park. Everything seems frozen and it ran fine a few minutes before that. I'm hoping there is a simple way to reset the faults or if I have a much bigger ECM issue.

I don't know if you've looked at the title of this particular forum, but I see "XJ ( X351 )2009 - Onwards". As your car is a 1997, it is a previous iteration of the XJ saloon known as the X308 series. If you post in there, I'm sure somebody will know something about your problem
