Access and removal procedure depends on the engine in your XJL ........

Graham,
2011 xjl supercharge with a 5.0 engine. I had a mechanic test the battery and it was good, he checked the alternator while the car was running and the output was 11.2 volts. It points to alternator. Any link to the how to remove and install will be appreciated.
Thanks
Pedro

Just a suggestion? Try to keep your original alternator if at all possible. Get the OEM one rebuilt and maybe even upgraded if you want.
We have had a large number of people who have continuing problems with a replacement unit. Most of the time the new one does charge but the car still sets lights and error codes.
Different reasons have been posted why it happens but no general agreement about what is the actual problem.

Thank you all for the helpful replies. I am keeping the original, local alternator shop is going to rebuild it for a fraction of a new one.
Thru trial and error I will go to work on getting it out first. Will try to not remove items unecessarily.

Pedro,

Thanks for the additional information. I've added engine size to your forum signature.

Unfortunately, the only X351 Workshop Manual I have is for the 3.0.

Here's the Workshop Manual procedure for my XK with the same engine. I expect the X351 will be a similar sequence - attack it from underneath the vehicle with the shrouds removed.

Thank You for the info. It was easier than some people make it out to be. My dilemma now is that the one I took out doesn't look like an original. It has no label or part number. I am going to replace it anyway. Best brand? AC Delco or Denso?

Both respected brands but the OE in my XK has a Denso label on it.

My XJ Super 5.0 had a Denso OEM. It now has a Delco Gold (rebuilt) as that is what was most readily available. It operates perfectly, no warning lights or other issues.
