Default 2011 XJL Electrical Problems..

I have a 2011 XJL with 30k miles. I bought it used from the dealer with 12k on it 6 months ago. In the last week the passenger seat it stuck and won't move. I checked under the seat and the electrical connection is connected. On the center console none of the buttons work I.e. Door lock, a/c, and radio controls. You can control the radio by the steering wheel and the touch screen works. I don't have an owners manual so I can't tell which fuse goes to what. Anyone else have these problems? Thanks in advance!

Their is a "Sticky" handbook download available at the top of this page that should enable you to find the correct fuse in one of the three fuse box locations.

Your car should still be under warranty. Let the dealer fix it.

I'd try a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect it and give it 5 minutes to reboot. Failing that go to the dealer.

If you've spilled coffee/soda/water etc out of a cup in the cup holder and onto the infotainment/AC controls, it will short that center stack out. Be careful. That faceplate is expensive and if the dealership gets it off and finds soda or coffee residue it will not be covered under warranty. I'd give it a bad guess at around $1400 to replace the faceplate.

If anything has gotten stuck under the passenger seat and it impeeded the movement, the seat will remain stuck even after whatever it was is removed. You can reset the seat by holding the switch in the direction you want it to move for 2 seconds. Make sure that there is noting stuck in the seat track before doing this. This might not solve the problem... there could be something else going on. But it's worth a look.
Good Luck!

lisalauck,

I (like an idiot) managed to leave my sunroof open on my '10 XJL during a rainstorm for about 30 minutes. Water obviously got down into the infotainment/AC control panel and now my hard-button controls (center console buttons like AC, door locks, etc) aren't working. Like the OP my steering wheel controls and touch-screen are working fine - just the various tactile hard-buttons aren't working on the center stack. Do you happen to know - (and could you point me to) a set of part numbers for the failed motherboard/PCB(s)/Controller(s) that would need to be replaced in this case? I can't seem to find the relevant parts and want to look around via salvage and OEM replacement dealers, but need to know "what parts" that I'm looking for exactly.

Thanks!

Nedoerr,

Thanks for that! If it rained in the vehicle through the sunroof, and this panel (all the buttons on this panel in particular) aren't responding, is this all that would need to be replaced? Is there some other control board or PCB that controls these functions (perhaps under the center console, etc)? If it's as simple as this, GREAT! Just want to make sure that the actual control electronics that drive these inputs (buttons, etc) is actually integrated INTO this panel, before I go purchase it and it doesn't correct the issue. Thanks!

I would check your passenger compartment fuses first. They are unfortunately behind the rear seat. I would check all of them, but in particular F62, F33, F21. I’m not sure these are the fuses, but they are all related to the front climate control module.

Thermo, do you know which fuse controls those buttons? If the relevant fuses are all intact, then I’d probably buy the module I linked to.

Before I would replace anything I would take it apart and dry it all out with a hair dyer or heat gun.
It's fresh water so the won't start to quickly. You might be surprised.

It's worth a shot before buying anything.
