Default 2012 XJ - Can Door Locks Be Set To 'Chirp'? - US Market

Hi Guys:

Have a 2012 XJL and would like to hear a 'chirp' when I lock the doors.

My dealer said that to do this, I have to press the 'lock' button twice on the key fob and then the horn will sound.

I think the horn sounding is cheesy (especially at this price) and pressing the button on the key fob defeats the point of being able to keep the key fob in my pocket.

Anyone got theirs to 'chirp'? I see nothing in the manual.

Thanks - Roger

I have a 2011 and I dont believe you can get a chirp out of either one.

I just listen for the "thunk" of the doors locking and the "whine" of the mirrors folding.

On our (UK) 2011 model there is an audible short electronic "bip/beep" sound when you press the little button on the door handle twice (i.e. for double-locking/arming the alarm). It's not very loud, but clearly heard within a short distance of the car.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hello to all my fellow XJ fans/owners (future, current, and past alike). I did post a hello on the new members thread along with a few pics of my car...
I just want to say that you guys have been instrumental in helping me get my dealer to sort out and clear any issues before I took possesion of my car. I have had a few minor issues here and there over the past 6 months since I have owned my car, but nothing major...will write a post sometime soon about my experience with my car so far since I really liked reading axr6's post: "XJL after the first 1000 miles".

Anyway, to answer rogerdodger's question above, macperegrine is right in that if you press the button on the door handle twice within one-two seconds apart, the car will make a quick chirp sound as the mirrors are being folded. I usually always double-lock my car as a matter of habit so it is reassuring to hear that beep along with seeing the mirrors nicely tuck away.

Well, thanks liquidice but mine sounds the horn, rather than a nice 'chirp'.... Sounds pretty cheap! Mine is a 2012 but I wouldn't have thought that Jag would have taken off the 'chirp' if it was on the 2011. Thoughts?

Yes, you are right, it is more of a quick beep of the horn...I hadn't given it much thought but yes, the horn can be annoying in the garage once the door is down. It would have been nice to have had a soft chirp, but like HouTex said, I do like the whine of the mirrors as they fold...sounds neat indeed! :-)

My 2011 came with the "chirp" and I do not care for it at all. I would like to disable it. anyone know how to do that?

You can have the audible chirp function turned on by the dealer. It is a programable option in IDS. I turned it on on my 2012 XJL & my wife hates it. She wants it like nher 2011 was.

my infiniti has a nice beep sound....which is light years better than the horn

but the interesting thing is people start noticing the sound of the mirrors folding in and they get excited
