2012 xj sc
OK so I bought a 10 XF SC and it turned out to be a lemon so I am now looking at a 12 XJ SC. Anyone have any input on reliability for this year/model? I really love the way Jaguar looks but my first didn't even survive a week. This just bad luck or are the stories of Jag reliability true? I really want to buy the XJ SC but now I am worried. Any input is really appreciated. Thanks!!!
I've read a lot and pretty much everything I could about the Jaguar XJ ( aka XJ351 ) before I bought it.
I've always kept BMW / Mercedes in my garage and been utterly reliable - and I traded in my old Porsche 911 Turbo, which was solid as a rock, for my new Jaguar XJ Diesel.
Jaguar has a history of so-so reliability but they are trying real hard to turn this around - specially with the XJ.
It was launched in 2010 and 2010 and 2011 were a bit problematic years - fine tunning I call it, for the XJ - few niggles appear ( rear lights condensating, problems with the sunroof, the dreaded battery discharge problem, etc).
Then it had an update in 2011, 2012, 2014 and then now in 2015 a bit of a makeover.
2012 plus cars are more reliable - from what I've read. Seems that most the flaws have been ironed out.
Apart from a couple more serious failures, I've not seen ( or read or heard ) any major complete breakdowns or complete failures. Yes, you will find one or two threads that need an engine replacement, but most of all , the car seems quite reliable from 2012/2013 onwards.
Ofcourse, 2010/2011 cars have now 4-5-6 years old and racked up a few miles where 2012-2014 are just 3-1 year old and low mileage, but I do belive that Jaguar did try to improve the car as the years went by.
Check with utmost care the maintenance - badly or overlooked cars, they seem to suffer. And get one, if a bit more expensive, with a warranty from Jaguar.
I bought the Diesel version which makes a very cool 40 us / mpg and superb noise for a Diesel, but I do lust the SuperCharger angry nascar-ish noise...
