Default Anyone ever considered routing iPhone display/video on screen?

Under "my video" we have two options: dvd and usb. When receiving the message "please connect USB". I will assume the request is looking for something to be inserted in the USB port in the armrest console, therefore if we can get a usb display/video out from an iPhone from the Lightning jack, adapt it to USB, we should be able to route our iPhone display to mirror on to the display. Let's figure this out.

I've tried. I don't think it's possible.

Is your Jag an automobile, or a rolling video arcade?

Ok hers a use....perhaps we want to use our phone navigation instead of the weird cumbersome Jag nav and not have to mount a garmin on the dash....

I like your idea. That would be a great feature to have!

I don't that will be available until Jaguar supports Apple's Car Play and even then I would be surprised to see them update older models. They don't seem to want to be like Telsa when it comes to software updates. Our two screen's software should have been updated by now. And Telsa is the only company doing it right by doing OTA software updates. It's 2015 for pete's sake.

Default can someone please explain...

what "USB video in" means?

I have never heard of the ability to get a video signal from a USB cable.

Most cars have either a composite video input or nowadays HDMI.

Sir,
USB really means flash drive or USB storage device as far as this car is concerned. This car will .avi and I believe .mp4 files stored on a flash drive. What I haven't seen it play is any video stored on a iPhone or iPod.

Yea I know you can play mp4 and avi from a drive but theres also gotta be a way to simply input a signal such as a playstation or our phones....

Im trying to figure out how to tap in an HDMI port and open the system to accept a video signal. Theres gotta be a way because no other "player" of any type I can think of only limits itself to a particular file format. In other words its not that the Jag interface can ONLY READ a certain file types, its that the Jag interface doesn't get the input to display. An interface doesn't care what the input type is.

I'm trying to explain the best I can but another way to look at this is that our interface plays DVD's and most DVD players that include a screen have a video in. Logic would say that the technology to mirror a video signal to itself is inherent as long as we can get the system the signal to use. I'll figure it out.

Make any sense?

I think I understand. If there was a way to tap into the display then possible there would be a way to play another signal on the screen. I was more referring to the system in its entirety. The system does not play .flac files for example but there is an aux jack that will play whatever you send through it because the device is doing all the decoding. I have the rear entertainment system and it has RCA video and audio inputs so technically I can connect any source to that and it will play on the rear screens. Unfortunately nothing plays on the front screen from any source in the rear even when the car is stopped. The USB's in the front won't carry a video signal because they go through the system. If you want to be able to carry a source to the front screen other than the DVD you will have to go to a stereo shop and have them rip the console out and jury-rig something.

Theres a few companies such as NavTV https://www.navtv.com that makes a $300 device to add HDMI inputs to our system, NavTV also has an optional TV tuner for this system that allows us to watch tv on your screen. They've got a device coming soon to do it wirelessly via wifi hotspot. Im waiting on this one as having car wifi appeals to me.

Here's a related article that absolutely ***** all over our outdated display with it's slow, limited GUI. It's the worst in the industry in terms of technology...If you don't know yet, check out Audi or Lexus in terms of functionality....state of the art, with Jag lagging far in the rear.

I said the same thing when I first got my car as one of my major complaints. We have two video screen and can do absolutely nothing with them. No software updates, No album art on older models, here we are in 2015 and they still use a check engine icon. I have a friggin screen! Tell me what exactly is wrong with the car please. And why doesn't the car give me more info in sports mode? We don't even get tire pressure. You will tell me I am low on washer fluid but you won't tell me my individual tire pressures? Are you kidding me?? I tell you it can be nerve racking at times.

I had an '06 Bentley and the display was awful...chunky graphics, etc. Must be a British Motors thing.
