Default Auxiliary trunk 12v and USB power

I recently completed my trunk power. I think it turned out really well...looks factory. I now have 2 USBs and 1 12v outlet. The 12v outlet is nice for the battery maintainer as well. This plate is available on Amazon for only $12 fuses and all!

tjankovs, they also make a port that you can pull the power port out of the back of the center console and put that USB port in. I did that in my car and makes it really easy to keep your USB devices charged. It is also nice as you can get them with a voltage indicator. With that, you can see if your car is having issues without having to even connect a meter. IT was like $12 through amazon.

Maybe I misunderstood?
But the 12v outlet is powered off your car battery how can you power a battery maintainer from that?
Are you charging your car battery from that port?

yes...I am charging the car battery via a maintainer thru the port. It's cleaner than alligator clips or a harness laying in the trunk.

Did you connect the ground wire to a ground point or direct to the battery, if it is direct to the battery then the battery condition monitor may not be able to monitor the ingoing charge correctly. My quick connect for my ctek conditoners on all my vehicles have the ground wire fitted to a bolt near the actual battery that is connected to the bodywork of the car.

I thought I need to take the battery out to charge it as per the handbook. Is this not required then?

If you need to fully " charge" a battery with a regular battery charger then it was normally advised to remove it from the car, or at least disconnect it. With the ctek or similar "battery conditioners " then they stay connected all the time. These conditioners use a very low "trickle charge" and have circuitry to switch on and off to regulate the current going into the actual battery.
