Unhappy Bicycle Carrier

Hi guys - Please help.

I am the proud owner of a 2012 XJL. I love the car.

The only problem is that I also love cycling and need a way to transport the bikes with this car as the rear seats do not fold down and I can't add a tow bar to the car.

Are there roof rails available or anything I haven't thought of??

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ashif,

I have the same problem. There's no rack for the XJ. The roof can't receive it because it's almost all glass.
The only way is to put a tow bar...
That's why I want to transfert the lease of my XJL. Love that car but the non-folding back seat are a real issue for me.

Cheers Guy,

I just bought the car in March so can't afford to change it just yet (love driving it too much too).

I clearly didn't think this through too well but hopeful of some kind of resolution.

Thanks for the response.

Cringe at the thought of seeing any sort of bike rack on an XJ. That's what the second vehicle is for. lol.

Anyway I have one of those trunk bike racks. Of course never used on the Jag but perfect for the SUV. Could something like that worK?

The problem is that the 2nd car is the convertible XKRS!

By chance, the 3rd is a SUV, but it's so boring to drive..

Yep - kind of like that, except the second car is a Hybrid Lexus and they don't like tow bars due to the battery being at the back of the car (or so they tell me!!).

There may be the option of a cycle carrier on the Lexus so if nothing else prevails, looks like this is the only option - (although short excursions only).

Thanks for contributing.

I've been able to fit a road or mtn bike in the trunk of my SWB 04 XJ, and a second bike upside down behind the front seats. Obviously the wheels must both come off, and you need to use some rags so the chain doesn't touch any upholstery. The X351 trunk is a slightly different shape than the X350 trunk, so your mileage may vary. Though not an option for the X351's, Jag did offer an optional roof rack bike carrier for the X350. Beyond that, trailer hitch racks are going to be your only option.

I see your point of view derrickonline. I have a 2012 XJL and somehow just can't see putting a bike rack on such a fine automobile. Of course I'm old school and if doing any towing/hauling/, etc. that's why I use the GMC truck.
