Default Blown 5.0L Rebuild

Hello all. My name is Sean and I am from FL

I have a 2012 XJL 5.0 sc. Recently one of my timing chains jumped. After replacing the timing gear, I found that my rings were blown on the drivers side. I have low compression in all four cylinders on that side. 60-70 psi. A little oil in the cylinder bring it up to 160 psi.

I want to rebuild the engine but as you all know, parts are not available. At least not Jaguar parts. Aside from having custom pistons made, has anyone found a source? Maybe over sized by .020 since I will be boring it out for new rings. I noticed that the coyote pistons can be had in the correct bore, even though “These engines don’t share any parts!” I put that in quotes because I am skeptical on that.

Thank you all in advance.

When I get the engine out, I will post a video of the timing chain replacement process with some tips and tricks.

If you read the thread, did you see this source for pistons mentioned in it?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/182480214893

There was a link to this supplier as well but it looks like they are out of stock:

Sean, a few years ago when I was in London and talking with Jaguar engineer's (got to go to the XE Feel event), they said that the Jaguar engine uses the 5.0L Ford parts as there is a shop on the back of the Ford plant that the Jaguar engine builder can walk into the Ford plant and pick the parts that he wants (part of the agreement between Ford and Jaguar at the time). So, I bet you wlll find that things like rings and whatnot will be obtainable saying that you have the same year Ford Mustang that has the Coyote motor. Now, I will admit that Jaguar uses their own block, so, things like gaskets will be unique to jaguar. But, I think you are going to find that ring, bearings, etc will be swappable.

I have seen that the coyote pistons can be had in almost the exact same bore at the JLR 5.0. The coyote has had a few changes so there are a few different sizes. More importantly, there is huge aftermarket support for the ford engines. I know the crank is different but I wonder about pistons and wrist pins? If I were to bore the engine.020 over, I believe that is somewhere around 93mm.

Sean, the only thing that I can tell you is to do some measuring and see what matches and what doesn't. I don't think you are going to find a document that says "the following parts are used in both ........." So, you are going to have to do a lot of research to make it all work. I have taken on a few of these projects with my Expedition to push the boundaries of what will and will not work.

That is the plan. You are correct. I have not had any luck finding cut sheets for the JLR internal engine parts.
