Change default settings - Not possible???
I don't own a Jag yet but really want one. I test drove 2012 XJ 5.0 and 2013 XJ 3.0 AWD. During both test drives I was focusing on driving component and completely missed user-relevant options a features like heated seats and playing music.
Yesterday I read someone's review and learned that:
1. There is no dedicated physical button for heated seats, but it rather buried in the infotaiment console. To turn the seat heat on, one must select seat option on the touch screen, wait for slow screen response; select desired heat setting; touch return button to go back; wait some more for screen to respond. If you start the car remotely, there is no option to heat up seats on such start up.
2. Jag does not remember your selections of airflow (like feet/windshield vs windshield only for example) and each time you start a car, you have to change them from the defaults
3. There is no way to default music play from USB when the car starts. To play from USB, one must go to menu, select Source; wait for slow screen; select USB; wait ...
4. You can't change default behaviour of passenger window when reversing (rolls way too low and shows only tire and not necessarily curb lane?)
Now, I have no personal knowledge of any of the above, and currently have no access to an XJ to check myself.
Please tell that all of the above is not true. I live in Canada and having heated seats is very nice and I would hate to go through several options of the slow info system just to get my seats warm. I mean, c'mon its a split second press a button in any other make.
Is there a way to reprogram default system behaviour, like play from USB upon start right away, and make car remember new defaults? How customizable Jag's interface in general?
Thank you.

1. On my 2012 XJ I can press the hard "seat" key located below the touch screen, which brings up the seat menu. One touch to the driver's heat soft key puts that seat in full Hot setting. That's two touches, which I don't find annoying. Attempting to program these keystrokes into a remote starter would be interesting. Now ... if you installed a
you could have it perform this function, along with superior anti-theft protection.
2. I keep my HVAC on Auto, so I can't help you with this one. I doubt that the car forgets the last setting, but I'll check next time.
3. If I turn off my car with music playing from my USB stick, the music begins upon restart at the beginning of the track that was playing.
4. I think you are referring to the passenger outside mirror, which will remember a Reverse position if you save it on the door profile switch.

Hello drake1980
1. I have MY2010 and i live in Finland so long winter as well, but i have been accept the seat heat from infoteinment menu. For me it was also bit innoying at beginning, but it´s not so bad when get used it. I jump in the car, start driving and set heat on when moving. Under the touch screen there are hard button for seat options and then you have to chose heat from touch screen. XJ sets rearwindow, winshield and mirror heatings on automaticly when cold in every start. (even you might don´t need them on at the time..) I would chose seat heating to turn on automaticly on cold by sensing seatbelt and inside temp, instead of windows/mirrors. Physical buttons are only for rear seats if heated/cooled rear seats.
On this forun, on "Sticky" section, you can found Owners Manual to check out more. (i read it couple of times before i purchased my XJ few years back
)
2. Yes, it remembers the airflow settings.
3. Yes, it remembers the last played device. (you can store 8 CD:s to the internal storage, but i found USB more usable)
4. You mean passenger side mirror? You can set your desired angle where it turns when reversing and store it. The turning speed of the mirror are pretty much same than any other car i have seen. (propably many manufacturers use same mirror actuator gear?)
As far i know the infoteinment do not have much to configure. You can chose few desired function buttons on first screen.
The voice commands works well. Don´t stick only on commands XJ shows on voice menu. Try more complicated, like; "Navigation go to nearest petrol station" Instead saying 1st "Navigation" Then wait XJ reply, then 2nd "Go to..." Then wait XJ reply... etc... You will be surpriced (and/or have a laught when it got all wrong
)
Mine are 3.0 diesel and i found it quite driveable in snow/ice. (i have studded winter tyres) Most trouble are high low torgue in trafficlights where traction are lost and traction controll step in. Winter mode help a lot by starting 2nd gear.

It appears that there are aftermarket remote start products that can be programed to activate seat heat and even other items manually or automatically below a preset ambient temperature. The 2012 XJ infotainment system is kinda buggy and isn't very robust, so maybe installing such a system would be a bit of a gamble. Perhaps your local Jag dealer has some successful experience with one or more manufacturers of these devices. https://perfectionistautosound.com/r...gs-didnt-know/
