Question This close to buying 2011 XJL []

I am looking at buying a 2011, XJL with just over 41,000 on the odometer. I've read extensively almost all the information about the 2011 XJL I can find, so I have decided to come to the source and ask those who know best. Some background on the car. I read the CarFax, the water pump has been replaced, and there has been work done on the car by the dealer, to wit. wiring work, door actuator locks, sunroof repaired, console latch, engine computer replaced well, there is more so I will post the CarFax

http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...WA2GB9BLV03328

It seems like a lot of work has been done regularly in the car. A bit about me, I can do my own brakes, and I've replaced caps and rotors and also now coils and plugs. I can use a code reader and have metric tools. I hear the oil changes are about 125.00.

I just want to hear thoughts from current owners. I hear maintenance is like a jet aircraft on Jags, has to keep up with for good operation. This would be a daily driver for me.

Advice is appreciated.

i bought a 2012 5.0 SC about a year ago with 65k on it, it had maintenance records and had all the scheduled service performed at the right intervals. It had a remaining CPO so i pulled the trigger. Mine has been dead reliable the last 12 months. I took a trip to NJ, TN, and Hilton Head, and its been a fantastic car. Ive had to go to the dealer for little things, like the sunroof pop and the mirror was making a noise when it folded in, but nothing that effected drivability.

There are some people on here who have had never-ending problems, it seems, but that is the exception to the rule. Others have been around much longer and can give more feedback, but this last year for me has been a great ownership experience, and as long as yours was taken care of properly, I think you would enjoy it too.

Does the roof creak. Get someone to take it for a drive on a dry day and record the cabin noise - if the roof hasn't been fixed, you will be able to tell.

Hi Jeremy,

A couple of thoughts:
_
  1. The Jaguar is not a Toyota Corolla. With high-performance comes more complex maintenance; I think you’ll find that to be true with any upper-tier European luxury/performance vehicle.
  2. 41,000 miles for a seven-year-old car is not a lot! You are fortunate that you have found a low-mileage kitty that’s only been on the road an average of 6,000 miles a year.
  3. The fact that you are seeing all of these items both in Carfax and in the maintenance records should, if anything, give you some assurance that attention has been paid to vehicle maintenance and issues have not been ignored. My 2004 XJR (may she rest in peace) came to me with no such pedigree. I had four fun years with her, but I also had a few months of unending problems because she had been badly mistreated by her previous owner and the way I found out was when things started breaking/falling off. With your prospective vehicle, you at least know that the problems that came up have been addressed.
  4. No matter what the maintenance record pedigree or the Carfax says, insist on being allowed to have a thorough mechanical and electrical inspection performed on the vehicle by a trusted independent mechanic. Preferably prior to purchasing the vehicle, or ASAP after purchase if there is a no-questions-asked return period for your purchase. For example, I bought my 2013 XJL last week from Carmax and immediately took the car to the mechanic who worked on my 2004 XJR. They found over $4,500 worth of repair items that Carmax will need to address within the five-day no-questions-asked return period or I will be giving the car back to them... and they don’t want that to happen! You have all the power right now; use it!
  5. It is good that you are comfortable with doing some work yourself, especially on wear items like brakes. Our temperamental kitties need careful TLC, so their owners either need to be mechanically handy or they need to be willing to spend the money necessary to keep these cats healthy.
_
Good luck! Be sure to post a picture of your new charge, should you decide to proceed with the purchase.
