Default Dealer experience

Hello I took my XJL into dealer for service and running hot condition. I paid a diagnostic fee. The diagnosis came back that they did a pressure test and Found coolant leaking from outlet, water pump and rear crossover. However the water pumps looks new and the one of the crossover pipes was previously replaced 20,000 miles ago. I’m not sure with one. They recommended that I changed the thermostat but that was replaced just before taking it in to them.

I didn’t mention that my coolant fan was not working to see if they would diagnose it not functioning. They did not. Once I mentioned to the service guy. He said there weren’t any codes but I know there was a code because I have a scanner and the fan code displayed. Then he changed up a said there was a code but after I mentioned the issues. Sounds like he was dishonest about the process. Before I decided to take my vehicle back I’m not even sure if they really did my oil service. They definitely charged me for the oil service and diagnostic. Also I noticed they added a fuel treatment charged I didn’t request.

If they did the oil change they never reset the service light also. Since my repairs are going through extended warranty party. He said if I bring it back he wouldn’t charge me a diagnostic.

Personally I don’t feel the diagnostic was properly performed and he added items I didn’t request on my service receipt.

I was thinking about taking it to another dealer across town that serviced the vehicle when the previous owner had possession.

Its sounds like for the most part they dropped the ball. If the pipes were updated, they dont normally leak. The rear manifold leaks but a rarity. Ive seen multiple water pumps done in a car, but its normally over tens of thousands of miles. My only quip would be not telling them the fan doesnt work. Yes they should have looked at it, but if they dont know all the info, how do you expect everything to be diagnosed properly.

Yes! true but I would think the proper steps of a running hot condition would be from least to worst, checking codes and all cooling system components.
IMO, If most dealers are aware of the common known issues. They may infact just say replace all the parts connected and let’s test it afterwards.

Don't know where you live, but I would definitely take it to the other dealer as he knows the car. See what they come up with. Good luck as good dealers are hard to find.

You should be able to confirm a recent oil change by removing the oil filler cap and wiping the inside surface with a white paper towel. If the towel is dark brown, take a photo and send it to JLR USA and your state attorney general.
