I bought a 2013 XJ off of someone about 6 months ago. I would like to upgrade wheels but can't get what appears to be spinning caps off. Of course there is no key . How do I remove the lugs and caps? Is this lots of drilling and a chisel time? Is there a way I can do this without the drilling each lug out?

If you hammer a 3/4" socket on to the damaged lug nut, it will re-form the outer shell so it doesn't spin on the inner nut. You should then be able to remove all of the OEM 2-piece nuts. If that doesn't work, try a slightly smaller socket. You can replace the OEM nuts with inexpensive 1-piece Toyota nuts as explained in the link below

Those OEM 19mm lug nuts were damaged beyond repair by the previous owner who allowed a tire shop to use the wrong size socket and air wrench to remove and reinstall the wheels. Those OEM lug nuts will last forever if you use the OEM socket and hand tools.

An inexpensive fix is to use 1-piece Toyota lug nuts, but you'll also need a new socket to properly fit those nuts.

For details, see this thread from the X150 Forum, and my Posts ## 6 and 10: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-bolts-145997/

Jay, if you need help, I am south of you by an hour and have all the tools we would need to get the sockets off.

Thermo
Thanks. I may take you up on that offer. I'm about to go try and bang the 3/4 socket on now and I will let you know how it goes!

Jay, if you have a pneumatic (impact) socket, that will be the better socket to use. It is not going to expand like a standard socket will. Just an FYI. I have plenty of the impact sockets. if we destroy one or two, I would still have spares.

Got it! I actually stole your idea Thermo (thanks!). I went to Amazon and bought an air compressor, impact wrench and sockets. That knocked it out in no time flat. LOL! I'm sweating like crazy, but all of them are removed! Next up, I just found out I have a leaky radiator hose (smh). I'm not doing that myself though
