Disable Automatic Folding Mirrors
Thanks Thermo,
I go to the Jag Dealer in Annapolis for warranty service. I concur with your opinion. I appreciate the advice regarding hooking up a STDP switch and pin locations. I don't think I want to go through the hassle, though. I'll live with it. However, in as much as you have the schematics, do you have any suggestions about cleverly disabling the Eco Stop Start function so that I don't have to put up with pushing the off button every time I fresh start the car. I know I can disable it by disconnecting the negative cable to the small battery but that also produces a fault code. Any knowledge with regard to tricking the system like using any of the Stop Start inhibitors like the trailer light circuit to fool the system into thinking you have a trailer and inhibit the function? Or using the brake boost sensor circuit which also inhibits the function?

Search the forum and/or "Google" disconnect Eco Start/Stop Jaguar. There's a lot of detail on the subject and many "how tos", based on year and model. Originally, all one had to do is disconnect the small battery, as newer models came out, it was buried way down deep in the electronics, but still doable.

thanks this tip worked for me.
Holding both mirror select buttons on the driver's door of my 2017 Jaguar XJL (Supercharged) only folds the mirrors in / out. How do I determine if the "folding mirror" feature is being turned on / off?
My 2014 XJ does what yours does. Holding both mirror selector buttons down either folds them or opens them both. I could only get them shut off at the dealer. However, getting the folding feature turned off also turns off the remote mirror adjustment as well.
Interesting conversation. I like mine to fold upon locking, considering the fact that I can't even remember locking the car as I'm walking away from it. *Well, not exactly, but close!) But upon looking back, when I see the mirrors folded, then I know. Yes, I know that if the locking button is pressed twice, the dinky little horn does it "Beep", but since I don't like to announce anything, the mirror position is my reassurance.
I know, I'm old.

I have a 2014 XF 3.0 SC. My mirrors don’t fold in automatically or manually from inside the car.
Is this an option? Or standard equipment? Maybe it’s already been disabled. I would love to fold them in with just a touch of a button. The attendant at the car wash may not be as gentle with them as they should be. I’m just trying to avoid damaging the motor if there is one on my car. I’ve tried holding both mirror selector buttons simultaneously but nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on XF (this is x351 XJ forum) but on XJ you can turn autofolding option On or Off by pressing mirror adjustent side choise buttons togerher +3sek. Short press fold them manually. This is also mentioned on handbook.
Not that he doesn't deserve it, but I was ready to send Vasara the XJ Genius award. But unfortunately his suggestion didn't work under any of the conditions I tried. He suggested to depress both external mirror buttons for 3 sec to disable the auto-close feature. There must be a way.
I am a 2016 XJL. With door closed, I tried: key on, motor on, start from closed, start from open. They are still activating when the doors are locked. Jaguar calls it, Exterior Mirrors, Powerfold.
I can disable the feature with them in the closed position. First, fold them closed with the buttons. Drive the car, then park and lock. The next unlock, they are still closed and require Double-button reopen. This happened when the Car Wash attendant manually closed them when the car was running (to protect them from the car wash roller).
I have also disable the auto-close feature accidentally in bad weather. I am in the NW. Although the weather is usually good, sometimes the rain instantly freezes when it contacts a cold surface (even when you can see the sun). It is an alternative to our bomb cyclones, atmospheric rivers, or graupel thunderstorms. My 1999 Lincoln had heated Exterior mirrors.
When I park outside and the mirrors freeze in the closed position, they don't always open when the door is unlocked. Eventually, the ice thaws or cracks, and the mirrors go into a free-swing mode. That is when I use the double-button open, and they lock open normally. Once they froze in the open position, and didn't powerfold close when the door was locked. That is when they stay in the full open position regardless of future lock/unlock activities. I leave them open until the weather changes.
An earlier post described the disable benefit as motor wear. I am laughing and wonder when I will need to change my motors. There must be a motor spin free, unlocked-state position. Either due to a mechanical locking pawl, a fixed lock detent, or motor state change. Who can explain how the motors lock open and close? And even more important, who can share the correct procedure that prompts me to send Vasara that Genius Award? Maybe hold 3 sec lock close, then hold 3 sec lock open simultaneous with disable cruise control?

Hi ca3724
Thanks for suggesting an XJ Genius award, but honestly the 3sek press to change some features are very common on EU made vehicles and there are no cleverness on it.
The 3sek hold works on mine. I just changed not to use automatic fold for the winter, because for here they sure freeze by snow and ice about next 3-4 months. (prosedure: Come to home, turn off the car, remembered that it will freeze and snow in the night, pressed both left/right choose buttons +3sek, open door and step out, lock the car and mirrors did not fold)
However: It could be that 3sek trick only works on earlier models? Maybe even only 2010-2013? In fact now when i check the 2010->2012 owners handbook states: "The mirrors can be configured to automatically fold when the vehicle is locked and unfold when unlocked. This feature can be enabled or disabled by your Dealer/Authorised Repairer."
So it might be that on 2016 the diag tool is needed for this setting.
