The dreaded Limp Home mode
The car: 2007 XJ8L
The Miles: 35,000
The Complaint: Unable to go to the grocery store and return (a distance of 4 miles) without being limited to 1000 rpm and no more than 15 mph. I even lost a race with a woman walking her little dog while trying to climb the last hill before reaching my safe garage. I topped the hill doing a smashing 2 mph!!! This failure has repeated itself twice, but thankfully on country roads and not the blinkin' freeway. My glorious big red cat was essentially a rolling road block. The local decent foreign car mechanic threw up his hands. Finally I towed it 150 miles to a shop who understands these beasties..
The sole alarm displayed: Park Brake Failure. What this has to do with forcing the car into Limp Home Mode is beyond me.
The solution: Replace everything electrical. New battery, new alternator, new brake switch (actually two of those), accelerator pedal sensor, and throttle body.
The Results: It works fine and my pocket book is ever so much lighter now.
My attitude: I hate the Prince of Darkness. I thought he had retired after poisoning my Mx IX. Guess not!
