Failsafe Engine Mode #2
Last week my Green Jewel went into the shop due to "Failsafe Engine Mode" along with ASC & TRACTION Control error messages and a CEL with a code of P0121. The TPS plug with gold connectors was installed to solve the problem.
Well the plug didn't do it and today I received the same Failsafe Engine Mode message. I shut down, waited a minute then restarted and things were find for a block or two then back to limp mode, RPMs at 1200 and no more.
This shut down, restart, drive a few blocks then shut down, restart again took place several times while in traffic. I'd limp over to the curb and do the restart.
The last time I restarted I was leaving the stop and go traffic so I used the gears and kept the RPMS up around 2000 - 2500 using 2nd 3rd and 4th gears and NOT letting up on the gas to coast and I was able to make it home (I had 20 miles to drive this way). I found that if I were to take my foot off of the gas a little to allow the car to coast it would jump into limp mode but if I kept the RPMS up things were okay.
The car is back in the shop and this time the throttle body is going to be changed out (I have an extended warrent...that covers all of this with a $100 deductible that I pay per visit).
I'll report the CEL code when I'm told what it is. I have not purchased a scanner as of yet, and what the fix was/is.
Isn't this fun!!!
