Finally got my XJ back a couple of weeks ago. I dumped it at CARMAX.

TL;DR version goes like this.

Late October 2017, water pump fails on I-40.
Water pump replaced with Mk2 type. Exhaust gasses found in coolant. Motor diagnosed as trashed, head and block warped.
Warranty company gets a rebuilt long block from third party. Engine did not run right and was also declared trashed. I was told one bank had piston damage.
Warranty company coughed for Jaguar longblock.
Got car back, CEL came on inside 24 hours.
Cat had gone bad, no reason given, replaced under federal emissions warranty.
Gearbox started doing odd things. Possible diagnosis of low fluid or low battery.

Didn't wait to find out. Took it to CARMAX. Took a bit of bath money wise, but I had lost any faith in the car to drive it anywhere out of the city.

Bye bye, XJ. Don't know if I am going to bother to replace it with another luxury car. From what I read, most are hand grenades with the pin pulled after four years.

 

Isn't everything in Lost Wages a gamble?

 

Sorry your XJ let you down to the point you no longer had any faith in it, but I definitely understand; I reached the same point with mine about a month ago when it became disabled yet again while on an out-of-town trip. I traded mine in on a new Cadillac XTS in order to get home. So far, so good.
