Default easy entry exit feature

I have an X351 (Portfolio 3.0) and - as far as I can remember when I exit the car the seat motors back and the steering wheel rises up to make it easy to get in and out. This is a feature which has been on all XJ models for about the last 10 years.
I had it serviced yesterday and when I collected it the seat was right back so I just motored it forwards to a good driving position and went home. I now find that (whatever I do) the only thing that moves when I entry/exit the car is the steering wheel.
I contacted the dealer for help and they reckon these cars never had the seat movement part of the easy entry/exit feature.
Am I going mad? Did my X351 never have this feature? Am I recalling the feature in the previous 3 XJ's I have owned? I am so sure it used to do this - can anyone tell me if their X351 has entry/exit with seat movement?https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/i...n_rolleyes.gif

I have an XJ MY 2011 Portfolio and the seat has never moved when entering/exiting the car. Only the steering wheel. Nowhere in the book there is any reference to the seat movement.

I loved that feature in my 2001 XJ8 Vanden Plas. My 2012 XJ (just traded in) and my new 2015 XJL Portfolio do not have the feature. According to the dealer, that feature was eliminated years ago.

In my 2012 XJL just the steering wheel moves as well. I did notice something today though.

With the key in my pocket and just opening the door everything operates as they say above, just steering wheel moves when I get in.

But today I was with some people and pressed the unlock button on my fob. Pressing that button caused the seat to move back, probably to a different saved position. I pressed my #1 save button to return it to my position.

Perhaps something like that happened with you as well.

Default Seat Memory Switch Alternative Use

I'm disappointed that only the passenger side mirror automatically dips when reverse is selected. So I programmed seat memory#3 to dip the driver's side mirror with no other changes. Simply pressing that memory #3 switch dips that mirror. When I'm done I press memory #1 switch to return to normal. A minor PITA, but it gets the job done.

You can do the same thing to have your driver's seat move rearward when you exit the car.

Do the X351 cars have an adjuster joystick switch on the binnacle to adjust the wheel and the pedals ?

If the switch is set to one or other of the adjustments, the "easy-exit" feature is disabled, at least it is on my car. I found the seat went back too far, so disabled it by keeping the switch on one of the adjustment settings, then set the seat memory in the 2nd postion to a rearward point I was more comfortable with. Then, when I get out of the car, I just press M2 and the seat goes back to my own setting.

Probably because it eventually fails as mine has.

I had a 2006, XJ standard length, and woe to anyone sitting behind the driver when the "Easy Exit" position moved the driver seat back. They'd have their feet totally "squished". I was told by someone, that was the reason for the discontinuance.

That being said, I wouldn't know why the feature wouldn't be available on the XJL, having a lot more space in the footwell.

I think the reason that only the passenger side mirror automatically dips when reverse is selected is that when parallel parking one still needs to check for passing cars or any pedestrians walking behind the vehicle, by using the driver's mirror.

However when parking between designated lines in a parking lot, dipping the drivers mirror would be helpful in assuring proper alignment and spacing of your vehicle within the parking space.

Your methodology certainly addresses this requirement on an "as needed" basis.

Thanks for your helpful suggestion.

A very good observation. However, even with the six extra inches of rear legroom in the XJL, one is still intruding into the rear seat passenger's space without notice.

Stuart S's suggestion in post #5 above could also be used to provide programmed rearward movement of the driver's seat for easy exiting on an "as needed" basis, using a different "driver" setting, since their are three presets available.

Thank you for bringing to our attention the unintentional consequences of "automatically" moving the drivers seat rearward, and why this is no longer a part of the "automated exit" feature.

My driver's mirror does not dip on my 2012 XJL-Portfolio. However, I think Stuart S has a good recommendation.
Personally, I find myself looking around in all directions in addition to looking in
the camera for safety sake.
