Last weekend engaged in the replacement of the timing belt and secondary camshaft chains.
Used every single locking tools, followed every procedure.
By the time to try the engine manually, does not make a full turn, locks, like something is stuck
Checked everything again, and checked for any interference inside the cylinders. Found nothing.
Everything is right.
The only thing that initially was not correctly performed was the gearbox was in P on the first try, then I unlocked manually with the lever inside the car.
It's now with 220k km, bought her in 2022, very poor service record.
She is a weekend car so does not make many miles per year.
Notice a rattle when the engine started so decided to replace the timing belt and timing chains. Along with water pump and so on.
You obiosly have 3.0 Diesel?
Did you had the locking pin for "flywheel" in opening just above starter motor, attached correct hole on flywheel? Did you have correct locking tool for flywheel? (2.7l and 3.0 have different tool)
Transmission in position P is Ok, since on that position the transmission output is locked, but engine can rotate freely.
I recommend to re-check the timing:
- Flywheel
- Cam sprokets
- Secondary cam chain coloured links on correct positions
Welcome to the Forum @T_Rocha ! I noted that this was your first post. You'll find lots of knowledgeable and helpful members here. You need to read this thread ...

Yes I used the 3 locks from the kit, two on the camshaft gears and the third one required the removal of the starter motor.
The coloured links on the timing chains are aligned whit the marks on the camshafts.
The belt for the hight pressure pump had also been replaced.
Did everything by the book.
I was kind of hoping that I might forgot something in the process, or if there was something else to pay attention to..
Hmmm...
Simple things first:
Do you have all tools you start with? Not missing any? (many youtubers use an soket to hold belt on crank sproket meanwhile quiding belt on top part. Easy forget )
For secondary chains you have to take cams off. (at least two) Check that the lifters and roller "arms" pressing valves (sorry, the correct term slip from my mind) are still in correct position.
Ps: One thing is a must for all 3.0l diesel owners to check: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/d...-valve-275907/
First of all I want to thank you for the quick answers you provided.
Second, I found the problem and was a bit unusual, at least never happened to me before..
During the removal of the camshaft covers, had to use a pneumatic remover for injectors on cylinders number 3 and 6
These 2 had a lot of grime and dust due to faulty washers.
Since I had checked the timing and everything was in place, had to remove the heads, so had to remove engine and transmission out.
I found that the grime and a piece of wire insulation fell into cylinder number 6, and because the "dust" is non compressible, was blocking the movement of the cylinder number 6 on its TDC.
Have some pictures to show, however the dust feel as soon as the piston reached the TDC without the head.
