Default X308 4.0L gearbox

I recently purchased a 4.0L with a broken gearbox, common issue broken drum inside (i dont totally understand) so also purchased another with a good gearbox so we have swapped them over and now have the same issue but it waa fine in the other car, it drives fine for a couple of mins then comes up gearbox fault and trys too pull away in a high gear (3rd ive been told), if you then turn it off and start up again, it clears for and works fine for a couple of mins again and does the same.

Any ideas please before i have a good 4.0L engine for sale and the rest is scrapped.

Many thanks

Otherwise, which gearbox control module (TCM) are you using, the original one or the one from the donor car? Check the ATF level and the selector cable adjustment. If those are ok, try swapping the control modules.

I have tried both transmission ecu's and would either of you know how i can tell if the oil level is correct?
i got the gearbox warm and undone the bung, it just trickles out of the hole.

Thankyou

The gearbox is checked COLD. (30 to 50 degrees Centigrade)

Start out at 20 degrees and try to catch the level at 30 but no more than 40 degrees. (tepid)

50 degrees is the MIN mark for the level.
