Folding mirror issue
I have a 2011 XJL with 53K on it. It's covered by an aftermarket warranty, but would rather not go through the hassle if I can fix this myself.
My driver's side mirror gets stuck in the folded in position on a semi regular basis. The hotter it is outside, the more likely it'll get stuck, causing me to have to manually open it. The dealer looked at it and suggested replacement, which would cost around $600.
Has anyone had this problem in the past? The motor hasn't failed, so I'm guessing there's a mechanical issue somewhere - it seems like it might just need some oil to free it up. Any thoughts?

I'm doing that now, just thought I'd check and see if there was an easy fix that had already been discovered.
Are you confident about motor works, if yes, sometimes the wiring for motor are rubbed and breaking, so try to disassembly mirror housing and check wiring near mirror fold motor
Check the X350 forum which I presume has similar if not identical folding mirror components. Folding mirrors and auto-dipping mirrors not working properly becomes an increasingly common problem as the car ages. You don't offer any indication where you reside, but in snow belt climates where salt is used a lot, the problems become even more prevalent. There are several threads of people dissembling the mirrors to clean out the grime and corrosion with varying degrees of success.
