Since I have play in the ball joints on both the left and right sides of my 2011 Jaguar XJL, I need to replace both upper front control arms.
I have spoken to two different workshops for quotes, and both have confirmed that the part numbers for these control arms are C2D36804 and C2D36806. So I have ordered them from the Lemförder brand.
Each control arm from Lemförder also includes a nut, which is said to have the part number C2D2476.
However, one of the workshops has stated that an additional four nuts with the same part number, C2D2476, are also required.
Is this really necessary? And for what? Note that only one of the workshops mentioned these four extra nuts.
According x351 Service and Repair manual the upper arm inner bush nuts are re-usable, since manual don´t instruct to discard these nuts. Only ball joint nut is instructed to discard. (much more dust, water and sand inside wheel arch than engine bay)
Front upper arm work instructions from page 364 onwards.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and helping me locate the Service and Repair Manual, which I have now found.
It is correct that on pages 364 and onward, the instructions only specify that a new nut must be installed for the ball joint. Nothing is mentioned about the two retaining nuts that attach the upper control arm to the body.
HOWEVER, on page 324, I found something else. There is a note stating that all three nuts used with the control arm should be replaced with new ones.
So I guess I need to get the four additional nuts too?
My problem is that the Swedish supplier (Skruvat.se) of the control arms only included the ball joint nut in the control arm package, and did not supply the additional C2D2476 nuts at all.
Do you think a large Jaguar dealership and workshop might have these nuts in stock, or is it likely that the workshop would also need to order these nuts to comply with what the service manual suggests?
Do you also think it would work to use a standard M12 flanged nut instead?
None of vehicle manufacturers made bolts and nuts themself, so you are good if you use a good quality nut / bolts with enough hardness. You live in Sweden? Please check if you have exsample Biltema store near you. There should be bolts and nuts on shelf, with 8.8 hardness specks what you like to have on these mountings.
Thank you again for the suggestion to find an M12 flanged nut at Biltema. I have several of their stores nearby.
Unfortunately, Biltema does not seem to have flanged nuts in the correct size. The largest they appear to have is M10. I have also looked for other non-Biltema stores nearby, but with no luck.
However, Biltema do have M12 lock nuts without a flange. Do you think such a nut would work?
Since these do not have a flange, do you think I would also need a washer under the nut?
It is also unclear (to me) what quality (hardness) the lock nut has. There is talk about standard DIN982. Do you think it can be trusted based on this info?
