Default Help Rear caliper stuck

Hello All,

Im in a jam, my rear caliper is stuck. I was able to wiggle it off. Now i cant get the piston to retract. I put the EPB into service mode. And i broke a c clamp and a disc brake pad spreader. I opened the master cylinder. Im not sure what to do the piston looks to be in decent shape..

Are you using the correct tool to retract the pistons into the calipers?

Here is an example of the tool:

They rotate and turn as you push you will never get them to move by just pushing!
I hope you did not apply too much force as you will need a new caliper if you damaged them!

Also read to find which way to rotate them. I did my rear brakes some time ago and I don't remember if it's clockwise or not?
Should be in the service manual.

They rotate in a clock direction on both sides.

The one NBCat posted is only $24 and has a large 21 piece adapter set. That set is less than half the HF price and contains more adapters.
If you don't have a kit. $24 is about the cheapest you will find one. I have a kit already or I would buying that one!

Not sure on the torque. Do you have the manual?

The hose to caliper fitting should have new washers fitted once the bolt is loosened. The hose to caliper bolt torque is 42 Nm. The caliper retaining bolts should be torqued to 28 Nm..

Be sure to top up the brake fluid, if needed, with the correct brake fluid meeting JLR specifications for low viscosity.

One final thought on the brake fluid: Jaguar changed the specification in 2006 to Shell ESL DOT 4. To the best of my knowledge, this fluid is not available in North America, so DOT4 or DOT5.1 may be used

DO NOT USE DOT5 brake fluid as it is not compatible with your vehicle. If in doubt, obtain the brake fluid from a Jaguar main dealer.

Thanks all.

As per owners manual it just need to meet iso 4925 . I ended up bleeding the system today. The jag is back at it after some heartache with the caliper. Those two notches should have been a tell but lesson learnt.
