Default Icontrol touch update

I've searched the forums, yet don't see a definite answer.
do I HAVE to go to the dealer to have my car's infotainment system updated?
I've downloaded via wifi..and it says "installing"... yet never finishes. Even left the car idling for an hr.

Be patient. Older version took ~3 hours to install from USB. (older system upgrade are 22-24GB )

Says the size was 189MB ...

I did wait for it to download... but it was stuck on the "installation"

Also...where do you get the files to put on the usb?
I was trying to install by connecting the car to my wifi.

Older version don´t have WiFi or 3G/4G. The upgrade USB drive comes with map packgage from HERE. (need to be purchased)

I hate to suggest it, but there may be a misunderstanding here: the ICE upgrade is done by SOTA (in cars fitted for it), but the satnav maps are generally downloaded offline (from a company called "HERE" for the early XJs).

SOTA upgrades are hundreds of megabytes, and appear to be what aren't working for the OP, and maps - including those from HERE - are many gigabytes and appear to be what Vasara is referring to.
