Just installed rear illuminated vents in my 2011XJL. The connectors were there! A simple plug and play. Not sure if all are like this.

would you have pictures of the install ? Been playing around with this idea for my xjr575. It came with illuminated front vents but the rears are not illuminated . Apparently for the 2018 model year , if you wanted rears illuminated, it had to be specified with an illumination package . Apparently mine was specced without …

Sorry no pictures. But its straightforward, especially the rears. Just pop out the trim piece and swap the vents. The plug should already be there also.

to remove the vents themselves (without having to dismantle the trim etc), there is a special tool

That tool is only needed for the front vents. Thats why I didn't mention it

thanks for clarifying

I'll be taking a stab at the rear vents in my 2010 XJ later this week, let's see if the wires are there also in my car

The rears ones are really easy compared to the fronts. I covered it all here in my working thread when I blackened my dash and console. Probably worth a look before you go for it. Includes a link to an inexpensive tool for the removal of the front ones. You definitely need the tool for that.

Thanks, great thread (and result)

btw: how did you get on with the front vent wiring? I have the idea to use the supply of the clock illumination for the vent illumination. need to look at details, but based on the schematics that should function. any thoughts?

I still haven't done the wiring to the fronts.

When I do it, I plan to plug into the circuit that powers the rear ones, route it all thru a switch inside the console so I can control them. Doubtful I would want to use them all the time considering the comments I have read about the glass reflections.

that could be worth the effort, I can imagine that on longer nighttime driving having them completely off might be better

can confirm also in my 2010 low spec luxury swb the wiring for the rear vent illumination is also there
yes, wiring is there
yes, wiring is there

rear of the panel (wear gloves when removing), use T20 to first remove small top part and then vents
vents are connected to the panel with T20 screws

and the result:
and the result!
and the result!

with the dash lights turned low, also the vent illumination is rather subtle, so I am optimistic that the fronts will not be annoying

My '12 came without the illuminated vents, I didn't miss not having them. The '18 575 came with them up front, not in the rear, so I'm guessing that that was standard fit. Anyway, on the 575 I hated the distraction when driving at night, hated the reflection off the windscreen, so I disconnected them.

I actually love the illuminated vents . I find it to be a very cool and classy touch , especially when driving at night . Ill
probably take the rear panel off and see if I have preexisting connectors . If so, I’ll order the illuminated vents for the rear. If not, I’ll let it be. Not into splicing and stuff. Electrics in all modern cars scare me as it is, let along in a jag

in the dark the vents are now a 'black hole' in an otherwise lovely illuminated dash (I actually often have the suspension setting to "winter" so the dials are blue as well). whether or not they'll distract me is hard to predict. but a small switch is an easy job to include (compared to the rest of the wiring)

While i do love the illuminated vents I have to ask? Did anyone at Jaguar actually drive an X351 at night? Those blue orbs are smack in the middle of both outside rear view mirrors! Very distracting and you do get use to them after a while. Just was so unexpected when I first ran across this!
