Default Jaguar XJ 351 2012 front passenger door lock removal

Hi

please could anyone help with door lock removal on 2012 XJ I have got so far by removing the inner card and door card but don’t want go to far if its not a DIY thing.

After investigation I have identified the cable from the lock does not move enough to enable opening of the door from outside when using the central locking or remote key phob. The door does open via keyless entry though.

I am pretty certain I need to change the door lock/catch.

Any diagrams or work shop drawings or advice eould be appriciared

thank you

Mark.

It can be done at home. I've had to do both front door lock assemblies and in the case of the left hand door, had to do it again when the manual lock cable broke. Actually the little plastic bushing that locates it on the door handle broke. So definitely check this before delving deeper. Either way you'll have to remove the actuator to get at it. A decent set of long torx drivers are your best friend. Just be patient and take it slowly. The areas that really slow you down are:

Prying off and putting on the external lock cover aft of the door handle without breaking off the small plastic tabs that hold it in position. Your friend here...plastic trim removal tools and a soft cloth to protect the door paint. Also great for removing the wood trim along the top of the door and popping the interior trim off the frame. The ones below are what I used:

Relocating the emergency unlock barrel and screw requires patience. There are plastic tabs that hold the lock actuator assembly against the door frame and if they break (like mine did) it'll involve reaching up with one hand inside, pushing the lock assembly against the door so you can locate the screw for the unlock barrel into position and getting the torx screw started.

Moving the door handle into the service position was tricky until I shone a torch up inside to see how it moves and then just pushed it with a thin blade screwdriver from the inside, until the wire harness clicked into the service position.

You can leave the hard to reach actuator cables on and by unbolting the metal brace that runs from the top to the bottom of the door frame, you'll be able to get the actuator out far enough to disconnect the cables and then remove the whole assembly. Carefully study the old actuator anchor points and you'll see a rivet that needs to be drilled out and replaced when you mount the new one on.

First time I did it it took about 4 hours and once I learnt what to do, the other door took about 1 hour.

Wished I'd taken some pics to share with you to explain it easier!
