Default Jaguar xj random acceleration

Hi, I am the proud owner of a beautiful 2016 xj 5.0 supercharged. I absolutely love this car. However this has happened a couple of times now. When I am parking the car and switch from drive to park, the engine revs up to almost 4000rpm and holds for about 5 seconds. This is quite an unpleasant sensation as it is definitely not me doing this. My foot is 100% no way near the throttle and is firmly on the brakes. If anyone can shed some light on this I will be very grateful.

Many thanks

Mark

Did you buy it new or CPO? Is it still under warranty? Even if it isn't, take it to your Jaguar dealer and replicate the problem in the presence of the service manager. This has recall potential and your dealer will want to know about it.

Do you have an OBDII code reader? Any fault codes?

Although the ball of your foot is firmly on the brake pedal, is it possible for your heel to inadvertently touch the gas pedal? What's your shoe size? Do you have WeatherTech or similar floor mats, or only the factory mats?

Hi the vehicle is cpo with plenty of warranty remaining. I have checked the floor mats , they are oem and have no chance of contact with the throttle. I do have large feet size 13😉 however they are also far from the throttle. I may have made a discovery though. I think the problem is to do with the gear selector dial. It might be a simple matter of scrolling too quickly, I am new to the dial and have found that if I scroll from D to N then P waiting a second in between the problem has not occurred since. Previously I was potentially scrolling too quick. I am taking it to the dealer anyway and will report back.

Thanks so much Stuart for your assistance.
Kindest regards

Mark

Odds are that your dealer will blame your right foot.
