Multimedia intermittently failing
Hello guys,
multimedia system in my 2010 Jaguar XJ is intermittently failing.
It started about 2 years ago with USB port, which would not recognize pendrives. It was not big deal, but then Bluetooth connection would sometimes fail. And it would fail more and more often. And reverse camera wouldn't work, though rarely.
Now it's audio and navigation system. Audio button is greyed out and there is no sound at all. And navigation doesn't work either. But next day everything works fine...
Today I went for a ride. Hurrah, everything works despite near 0°C temperature. I would then leave car for around 20 minutes and when I came back audio was greyed out and everything was silent and no navigation. What is going on?

Two things come to mind, interconnections and/or failing components inside the system.
Have you noticed if it's temperature-related or temperature-sensitive such that it works in colder temps, but not in warmer temps? If so I'd guess that the components are beginning to fail.
Another possibility could be that interconnections are contaminated by environmental contaminates interfering with the interconnects, but as high-quality as the system is, it is pretty well protected from moisture and humidity by design. That's not as likely.
So it may be worth beginning to look for a replacement or finding a place that might be able to repair it.

By my mind the symptoms point failure of cooling fan on IAM2.1 unit (CD/DVD player). It have an automotive grade HDD inside storing music and map data. By checking the spare unit i have on my self, the fan located inside of the unit is: SEPA MF40J-12A.
There are another cooling fan on drivers footwell for the instrument panel/display, part nr: C2D7495 and this can effect for the centre equipent as well.

If i remember right there are few thin wires so that the cover opens only slightly and then its possible to turn to side for access.
Does the navigation screen feel warm?
Strange I know but the XJ has a dedicated fan that blows air onto the back of the IP and the navigation stack. There are plastic ducts leading from the fan which is under the steering wheel behind the plastic panel. Rare to cause problems but has happened before.
