Default Oil weight

Hello,

As I ready for my annual oil change, I was wondering if anyone uses 0w20 in the 2010-13 cars. I read the posts every day, and thought someone said there was a TSB from JLR saying to use 0w20 instead of 5w20 to pump up the chain tensioners quicker. Of course, now that I need to do an oil change, I cannot find it anywhere. I am in Chicago, so surely for the next 6 or 8 months, thinner oil could not hurt on startup. Any info is appreciated.

I don't have the TSB handy, I'll email my dealer. I have been using 0W-20 on my 2012 XJL Supercharged. Cap obviously says 05-20, but my first service tech explained my invoice to me per a TSB so at least you have another witness to this, lol. The abridged explanation I've heard is due to higher viscosity at startup 05-20 was abandoned due to long term VVT issues Jaguar witnessed with 05-20.

I will be using 0w-20 in my 12 XJL SC as well. Just received the Liqui Moly Special Tec LR 0W-20 oil yesterday. Will be changing it today.

My service tech also changed my car (2010) over to 0w-20 oil without my input. I don’t recall a TSB for it, but everyone somehow got the memo. It would be interesting to hear what percentage of other service techs recommend this switch.

Thanks, guys. I knew I read it, and thought with winter around the corner, there is no time like the present.

My 2016 3.0SC specifies the 0W-20 oil right on the cap. Guess Jag finally figured out the issues with the 5w-20

I just bought a gallon of the Motul 0w/20 from Amazon. Can't find a better deal anywhere. Looks good.
