Parking Brake Fault :(
Parked up and pulled up the electronic parking brake today, light came up saying there is a Parking Brake Fault and it can't be applied.
I switched engine on and off, same issue, it goes into Park mode on the dial so it won't move or go anywhere, but the electronic parking brake won't go on, is this a common issue? Has anyone had it before?
Its under warranty still so wondering if it will be covered normally under warranty.

In my experience it is the rear pad adjustment. Try this:
EPB Lamp ON, Incorrect Park Brake Operation
1. Start the engine.
2. Firmly apply and release the footbrake five (5) times.
3. Confirm that the message 'NOT CALIBRATED' or 'APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKE' is displayed on the Instrument Cluster message center. This indicates that the parking brake is in calibration mode.
4. Lightly press the footbrake pedal.
5. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch.
6. Release the parking brake.
7. Release the footbrake.
8. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the Instrument Cluster and that the 'NOT CALIBRATED' message is no longer displayed in the message center.
9. Apply and release the EPB five (5) times to ensure no error is present
You may need to repeat the footbrake/EPB switch 3 or 4 times.

Weirdly, I started it this morning and its all working fine again! Could it be intermittent? I'll see what happens over the next few days, if it happens again I'll try those instructions thanks.
When I had this fault it was intermittent for about a week then, I guess, the rear pads wore a little more ant the fault became constant. I went to my dealer and they showed me this procedure. I did it in the lot there and never had the fault again.
THanks will try it if it happens again
The motor for the EPB takes a large current when stalled. Failing batteries cannot provide it. You get a fault report just as you've had. Or, seized EPB cables/caliper due to lack of maintenance causes over-current and again fault.

What kind of maintenance needes to be done on the EPB cables? Is the standard brake cleaner/spray you get from car garages enough?
Brake pad replacement is covered under my 2011 XJL; I don't know about your model year XJ, whatever that is, nor your mileage. "Average" car warranties don't cover wear items like brakes, but then again the Jaguar is hardly average.
I can understand wear and tear items like a brake pad would not be covered, but this is the electronic parking brake (EPB) module or motor, which is part of the braking system, not really a consumable. I will dig up my warranty details, was just wondering it the EPB is a common warranty issue thats covered by major suppliers.
I don't know the warranty period in the UK, but in the US it is 4 years/50k miles and IMHO that repair would be covered. Pads would not be covered in my model year, however.
For anyone elses information that had the same problem, I tried the calibration thing but it didn't work, problem was still there. Took it to the dealership and they said there was a software update for my EPB, seems to be fixed now. Also covered under warranty!
