Rear plastic roof panels
Has anyone come up with a product or method to renew the black plastic panels that slope down from the roof?
I don't know if they need to be replaced as they have faded significantly. I have tried spray cleaners, wax, and even a light
compounding. Nothing seems to work. If they need to be replaced, how much are they? Is it a DIY job?

I give mine a good compounding and it seems to do the trick. Trouble is, parking outside in the sun soon has them oxidized again. The plastic that was used isn't very good on UV resistance.
The best way to fix them for good is actually to have them painted.

I had the same problem with the black plastic window pillars on my old XFR, they were very faded and sad looking, and I'm guessing they were much the same material as the XJ roof pillars.
I first tried PlastX with not much success but then I tried Meguiar's Ultimate Compound which bought them up a treat, like brand new.
But it took a LOT of rubbing, at least a dozen goes IIRC.

The best thing I've found is to polish or replace them then have PPF=Paint Protection Film applied.
You can also have the same done for the A/B/C pillars appliques.
It eliminates fading, swirls, scratches, and makes it a breeze to clean.

Ceramic coatings should work on this type of plastic and for not too much cost. They do more bonding than basic spray on wipe off coatings.
LegitStreetCars does a few demos of the product he is sponsored by on YouTube.
1. Option 1, polish to remove oxidation
2. If you don't have enough clearcoat left, refinish and respray. You can mask the car off and dont believe you need to remove.
3. clean up and try a coating.
