Question Rims for 2011 XJ L Supersport

Hello,

I currently have the factory installed 20" rims for the supersport model and it's been next to impossible to find winters tires for them (245/40/R20 Front and 275/35/R20 Rear). The ones I did find were about 850 CAD per tire...

So I decided to look into buying 18" rims for use with winter tires that cost 300-400 bucks per tire; however, it's been just as difficult in finding said rims for this vehicle. From what I gather, the specs for the rims are 5x108mm bolt pattern with 14x1.5mm thread. The thread size is what's causing problems, as even the SC model appears to have different diameter threads (12mm vs 14mm).

Anyone on here know of aftermarket 18" rims that fit the supersport model and don't cost over 1000 bucks per wheel?

Will 18" rims fit the super sport with it's larger brakes?
Might need to do a test fit first?

I did some rough measurement and looked like it would fit, but I'm going to try an 18" wheel from my audi to see how much clearance there actually is.

Also, another option I have is going up on the tire aspect ratio, so from 275/35 to 275/40; not sure if this would cause any issue?

I have 2014 XJL Supercharged. In doing my research for winter wheel/tire combo I came to the conclusion that 18's did not fit and the smallest you can go on our cars is 19".

Thanks for the heads up! Are you on 19" or 20"? Do you know the rim specs of your car, specifically the thread diameter and pitch?

What is the reason for going with snow tires? For almost all people they are a waste of money. But, if you insist on wasting your money (or on the off chance that you actually do need them), there is a reason why they don't come in wider widths; They are less effective. There are 225 tires available for 18" wheels.

What do you recommend instead? I know over 90% of the time roads are clear of snow, and that's why I use all-seasons on my awd, but, with such a powerful rwd car, winter tires do offer improved traction on all terrain. Especially when it's cold and the rubber hardens.

From what I've read so far, the best size winter tires would be 245/45/R19 for this car.

Realistically, as you have noted, the roads are plowed almost all the time. Unless you live in an area with a lot of snow that is not plowed quickly, you just don't need them ever. The PITA to put them on and off for the minimal amount of use is just not worth the effort. Our X351s are so good at not slipping, you don't need the added traction factor. You might get a little better traction for those few times when the snow hasn't been plowed yet but that doesn't justify to me buying snows. Save your $1000 for something you can really use like a velocity tuner which is about the same price!

I say this with experience as I purchased a set of snows. I used them one time, one season. I have had them for over 6 years. What a waste!

Leo here is a link to my thread from last year. I went with 20" because I think they look a lot better than 19" and I was willing to pay more to not be disappointed with the look of my car for 4-5 months out of the year. I live in Northeast Ohio so winter set is a neccesity. Have summers on the factory wheels and I don't want my wife or nanny driving my 5-7 year old boys around in my 500+ hp rear wheel drive car on summers in the snow.

Good point, I'll just buy 20" rims that aren't staggered; 245/40/R20 are a common size too, as opposed to 275/35. Thanks!

Winter tires in Toronto is a no-brainer.

Winter tyres aren't just for the snow. They make a massive difference when it's really cold. In Toronto I'd have thought that was essential. In MD I expect all seasons are good enough as it's so much warmer

They do, especially when so much torque is delivered to the rear. I usually go with all seasons because all of my other cars have been AWD, but with an XJ SS winter tires are a must. It's just difficult finding reasonably priced winters for the rear wheels, but I've decided to buy rims recommended above and fit either 245/40 or 255/40 on both axles. Probably 245 as they should be better on snow.
