Default Sat nav update

Hiya,
I remember reading threads here about sat nav updating a while ago but unfortunately can’t find the respective thread.
I have a 2011 XJ portfolio and need to update the sat nav. I’ve done a web search and the only one found so far is £169.00 . That is unless someone here can direct me elsewhere.
Cheers.

Hi guys I am about to update the maps on my 2015 XJ and was wondering how easy is it to do and how long does the update take. Do you have to keep the engine on during the update etc.

Ho can I check the version number of my maps? I had my 12,000 mile service done (along with a handful of warranty issues taken care of) and they told me they updated my maps for me. This may have been due to a service complaint I made to the service manager, or maybe just goodwill. I'd like to see if they really updated my maps.

How do I check the map version of my customer’s Gen2.1 Navigation System?

• First, select, ‘Navigation’, from the ‘Home Menu’ screen.

• Next, choose ‘Nav Menu’ followed by ‘Destination Entry’.

• Then, press and hold the colon at the end of ‘Destination Entry:’ that is displayed in the header bar.

• Once the Diagnostic Screen is displayed; Select ‘Parts Information’.

• Finally, locate the map version number shown at the bottom in the ‘V XX.XX.XX’ format. The middle two digits signify the map version year.

• Not sure how to exit screen, but turning off ignition and exiting car and double locking (horn beep) and then unlocking car gets back to normal screens

NOTE: car does not need to be running just press start button without applying brake so engine does not start works fine.

I recently updated my 2010 XJ, and I believe that the process is the same on a 2015. It is easy but tedious and not necessarily flawless.

You need two things: (1) A USB stick with the update on, and (2) an activation code. (They are purchased together, although not necessarily delivered together: the code is dependant upon your VIN, and so has to be generated) Instructions come with the stick, but it is easy.

Put the USB stick in the USB port of the car, and it should immediately be recognised. Start the process. Wait for four hours. Done.

The engine must be running, but the process doesn't have to be done all in one go - every time you stop the engine the process pauses, and it continues when you restart the engine.

My tale is embodied in this thread: My (That is, not Jim's) XJ351 ownership thread ...

My biggest issues were:

a) the process didn't start straightaway, I plugged/ unplugged/ wiggled the USB stick for quite a while before the car recognised it, and
b) the messages from the car are not always helpful, but they do give you hope.

My stick was procured from eBay, rather than direct from Jaguar, which may have led to some - or all - of my issues.

Thomas, all that you have to do is put the supplied USB stick into the USB port in the center console and let it do its thing. It takes about 3 hours to do, but does not need to be done in 1 drive (start and stop). You can drive the car 10 times. It will start and stop the install process as needed to get the job done.

I updated mine last year shortly after purchasing my 2013 XJL. I live in a fast growing area of the DC capital region, and many of the streets in my neighborhood are still nothing but a green void on the nav system even after the late 2018 update. I’m not gonna bother updating it this year.
