The igntion has to be in postion two, car not running so you can access it. The hood has to open in order to check the oil level. I think that's right, either way the service menu can't be access with the car running.
Hello,
The X351 is the 2010 MY+. There IS NOT a ‘position II’ on the ‘ignition’ if you know better please point it out! 2013 Jaguar XJ with “Push to Start” ignition.
The car needs to be "on", ie, screen illuminated, engine not running. Press the button without holding the brake, and it will not start. This is how you check the oil, and you do NOT have to open the hood. The caveat is that it will read "not ready" if you try it without having let it sit for (I think) ten minutes after stopping the engine.
I was already well aware of that. That's in the rapid start card you get when you buy the car. And Powering on the car without starting the engine is not position II in a switch that only has I & O. (That means “On or Off”)
My point was the previous poster didn’t know what they were talking about. They were misinterpreting an X351 for an X350 or an X358.
You think if I’ve owned six jaguars I might know something right?!?

Hi mc690,
You have posted to a thread that has had no activity since 2011.
"Position II" is perhaps inapplicable to an X351, but you might recognize that "Position II" has historically represented turning the key so the ignition is ON but the engine is not running. To enter the Ignition ON mode in more modern cars typically requires holding the START/STOP button for up to 10 seconds, or pressing the button twice in quick succession.
Yes, we do think that if you have owned six Jaguars you might know something. At the very least, you might know how to be gracious to others who are attempting to help you.
