shakey wheels help, ive got brand new wheels fitted
hi every one i joined this group since ive had an s type r and now iv also invested in a xj 3.0 diesel, this cars brilliant but its not smooth 80k on clock,
i have brand new 18" wheels and new tyres, and also have brand new disc that have covered no more then 8000 miles, right so the problem from 40 to 60 mph the steering wheel has a shake in it, now at speed of 70 mph light braking the steering wheel will shake very badly and if i use harsh braking i dont feel the shaking. whats the possible reson behind that ? thanks saf

Probably the tyres are out of balance. Either a weight fell off one of the wheels or the wheels were balanced improperly. If it were the brake rotors, the vibration would happen when the brakes were applied. Have someone check the balance of each wheel.
There could be a number of things causing such shake or vibration. First, and the easiest, is to check wheel/tire balances. Then, check the brake disks to be "true", meaning that they are not warped. Slightly warped disk is what usually causes shake under light breaking but, not under heavy breaking. Sometimes, even an overheated and "cooked" set of brake pads would cause vibrations as they will not grip the disk smoothly.
If the wheels/tire/brake disk all check out then you have to have a shop go through and check all your front suspension components for wear. You have 80K on the car at which point suspension bushings could be worn, causing exactly the type of shake you describe.

IMO I think the symptoms indicate warped rotors. Did you replace all 4 rotors and are they OEM? The only other thing I would have checked is there are bushings at the rear of the front lower control arms and they have been known to give ride issues.

I have never seen a set of 18" wheels on a XJ. Got any pictures?
