So I have been having an issue with a smell in my vehicle that I can't get rid of.. I was told by the dealer that my a.c. is not draining properly and I have stagnant water or pond water like water in the a.c. or something.. I have no water in my passenger side floor so I don't really know why they said it's not draining properly or wateva.. So I'm gonna try and get my carpet shampooed by a different retailer with another smell before my scheduled fix at the dealership for the ac.. just wondering if anybody else had a problem like this or can help. it is possible to have smelly air conditioning, in the UK you can buy an aerosol can of a cleanser, you put the air con on recirculation, set the can on the floor and press the top to start it, the air con then sucks the cleaner through itself and then round again, once the can is empty you leave the aircon on for a while, it cleanses the insides of the system somehow.
I think the stagnet water sits in the evaporator area or something like that.
We did it to my son's car some years ago.

Okay got ya thanks I will look for it and try these before spending my 300 bucks for them just to spray my a.c. with something instead... I do trust my dealer however

 

Eljefe, something you can try is starting the car and turning on the A/C. You can then remove the filter for the A/C and spray a product called "Lysol" into the intake. This will get rid of mold and mildew (most likely the source of your smell) and this will also remove the blockage, allowing the A/C system to drain properly. Spray a good quantity in, let the car circulate the air around a bit and then open the windows to allow the Lysol to clear itself of the car. You can then drive the car normally.

Michael, assuming you are talking about a USA vehicle, open the passenger door and stick your head into the passenger footwell area. About 9 inches in from the side of the car, you should see a small tab sticking out holding a plate in place that is about 2" wide by 9" long. Depress the tab and the filter pulls straight down. You can spray right into the opening that is created.

In addition to using the anti-bacterial products recommended in previous posts, running the AC at maximum hot then maximum cold every few months prevents the distribution flaps etc sticking.

Can you see condensate dripping out under the vehicle with the AC running cold? If not, the drain tubes could be blocked.
