Default Snow tires for the winter?

Winter already visited Boston, and I called my dealer asking if they had any package for snow tires, and they didn't. I found some snow tires from VREDESTEIN off performaceplustire.com, never heard of that name. Tirerack has the Pirelli Sottozero but a full set is 2100 on top of whatever I get for the rims. Anybody drive their XJ SC in the winter around snow???? What tire/rim combo r u using and how much did it run u?

I'm also curious on what would happen if I only take out the SC on dry road/sunny winter days, even though I only have the factory Dunlop tires on it, will it perform ok. I'm fine with driving my old TL with snow tires, but would like to take the XJ out for a spin every few day instead of sitting for 4 months in a row in my garage. Thoughts?

I think the problem you might have is black ice and the days when you think the road is dry but its not.

Tirerack has Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 245/45R19 on Sport Edition WX5 19 x 8.5 wheels for $1784 as a recommended setup for 2011 XJ-L Supercharged.
